Job duties include set-up, service, and cleanup of catered functions, supervising and training of the student staff, cleaning and maintaining catering storage areas, and ordering and inventory. The catering supervisor duties include ensuring that meals and events held at the University run smoothly and exceed the customer's expectations.
All food service staff are required to follow the Health Department codes and regulations. Instructing and training staff in the proper cleaning methods and following the guidelines set by the University are important responsibilities of food providers.
This is a customer service driven position that must enjoy working with students, staff, and clients. Coordinating staffing for events to accommodate expectations of all clients internal and external to the University.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Coordinate with the Catering Manager in St. Paul to prepare internal and external events on both campuses. Work with the Catering Manager to hire and train a student staff that will allow them to efficiently execute catering events. Oversee staff supervisors and assign them duties for events. Duties to include instruction of daily catering tasks, training, keeping track of schedule in the absence of the Catering Manager, and coordinating and covering deliveries, pick-ups and events each day. Coach, develop and train student catering employees as wait staff who represent the University's Dining Services Catering division. Responsible for carrying out the details of each catered event as designed and written by the Catering Manager. Duties to include set-up of rooms/spaces/tables specific to the customer's orders, ensuring accuracy of items ordered by the client as well as their readiness and timely presence for events, maintaining standards of service, organize and/or direct wait staff throughout service and clean-up of events and meals, and assigning deliveries. The Catering Supervisor will adhere to and enforce the dining/food service written policies with the staff. Each person under the supervisor's responsibility should be issued a policy statement, review the information with the staff and then ensure staff sign the document and provided a copy. Maintain all catering storage areas of the Saint Paul & Minneapolis campuses. Duties to include cleaning, organizing, inventory of stock; working with the Catering Manger to ensure proper inventory and placing of orders when stock is needed. Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of food preparation techniques, the use of kitchen equipment, basic measurements, food safety techniques, and food service operations Minimum of three years of food service or catering experience to include at least one year of experience supervising employees Must be ServSafe certified or able to acquire certification with the state of Minnesota within six months of employment. (Expenses toward certifications will be covered by the University.) Must possess or be able to obtain liquor/alcohol training Tips certification or Serve Safe Alcohol Certificate within 3 months of hire. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a hotel, restaurant, or a college/university dining services Supervisory experience HOW TO APPLY All interested candidates must apply online at .
