Job Description:Summary:Barr is looking to hire a full-time environmental scientist to support our growing presence in the Southwest region of the United States. The person in this position will undertake challenging and fast-paced work on projects involving environmental impact assessment, permitting, and compliance. Work may include:Writing environmental impact assessment documentsDeveloping and reviewing environmental, site, route, and conditional use permit applicationsCompleting environmental resources reviewsReviewing field reports to verify environmental compliancePreparation of presentation materials to communicate project issues to a variety of stakeholder typesCommunicating with regulatory agencies and clientsThe person chosen for this position will collaborate with other Barr staff, regulatory agencies, clients, and subcontractors. Work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments in the field or at another Barr office.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in environmental science, studies, or policy; ecology; natural resources management; or a related fieldEffective oral and written communication skillsExceptional technical writing and task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, and following upHigh attention to detailStrong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)Ability to work independently and collaborate with teams of specialists and regulators at all levelsFlexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needsValid driver's license and acceptable driving recordLegal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futurePreferred Qualifications:Three years of relevant post-undergraduate experienceAdvanced degree in related area or specialized experience in the fields of environmental science, studies, or policy; ecology; or natural resourcesFamiliarity with NEPA regulationsEnvironmental consulting or regulatory agency work experienceExperience with state and/or federal environmental review, regulatory interpretation, and permitting processes (including environmental assessment worksheets, environmental assessments, and environmental impact statements) in the Southwestern U.S.Familiarity with socioeconomic screening toolsApplied knowledge of state and federal protected species programsA hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Albuquerque, New Mexico; Farmington, New Mexico; or Durango, Colorado offices.Colorado Applicants OnlyCompensation:The anticipated base salary range for this position is $63,000-$85,000/year. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus.
