We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Youth Conservation Crew Leaders for our 2024 summer youth program.

Position Overview: As a Youth Conservation Crew Leader, you will have the unique opportunity to co-lead a team of high school students in conservation-related projects, environmental education, and leadership development activities. This role involves facilitating community engagement, teamwork, and professional growth, all while fostering a safe and inclusive environment for participants.
Location: Positions available in either Northern Minnesota or Southern California.
Term: 8 total weeks, including 13 leader training days, 6 weeks leading a crew 7 days/week, plus 1 day of pre/post-program administrative work.
Program Dates: June - August 2024
Responsibilities:
Crew Management:
Supervise and support Crew Members during program activities and projects.
Foster an emotionally and physically safe environment in accordance with standards and Covid policies.
Collaborate with co-leader to manage group dynamics and facilitate environmental education and team-building activities.
Service Project Advisor:
Train and supervise Crew Members in the safe and proper use of tools for service projects.
Coordinate worksite logistics, tool maintenance, and work schedules in partnership with Project Leader and Forest Service Staff.
Maintain program equipment and tools used in projects.
Program Administration:
Manage administrative tasks, including paperwork, daily logs, incident reports, and equipment inventories.
Communicate effectively and partner staff to report incidents, hazards, and program evaluations.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements During Term of Service:
Adhere to standards and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and partners.
Participate in orientation and safety trainings.
Maintain positive relationships with agency partners, co-leaders, and Crew Members.
Complete necessary paperwork and participate in end-of-program debrief.
Qualifications:
Current First Aid/CPR Certification or willingness to obtain it before the start of the program.
Experience working with youth or young adults (ages 14-18) in a teaching, mentoring, or leadership capacity.
Demonstrated ability to organize and teach lessons, motivate students, and communicate effectively.
Familiarity with outdoor skills, conservation projects, and proper tool usage.
Valid driver's license (preferred) and ability to pass a criminal background check.
Must be 21 or older and a U.S. Citizen or legally able to work in the U.S.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Physically demanding work in challenging conditions, including steep terrain and variable weather.
Ability to lift weights up to 40 pounds and stand, walk, and carry gear for up to 8 hours per day.
Rotating schedule for work projects and administrative tasks, with 24/7 on-call responsibility for member safety and well-being.
Benefits:
$800 weekly living stipend.
