Description
The Civil and Environmental Practice seeks an enthusiastic and motivated Environmental Associate I to join our growing Environmental Compliance Team in Virginia Beach, VA. Responsibilities will include planning, executing, and documenting environmental engineering and compliance for primarily Federal and Department of Defense clients such as the US Navy, the US Marine Corps, the US Army Corps of Engineers and the US Coast Guard located across the US and abroad.
The project work focusses on compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations to meet various regulatory programs including petroleum storage tank (PST) and assets compliance; oil spill preparedness and planning compliance (including facility response plans or FRPs); and hazardous material management (including solid waste, hazardous waste, Pollution Prevention (P2), Emergency Planning and Community Right To Know (EPCRA), asbestos and lead based paint abatement). In addition, responsibilities of this position could include involvement in projects addressing compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) as well as sustainability services including Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary, collaborative engineering team, with staff located in the Virginia Beach office and in other Michael Baker offices located across the United States (US). The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter who displays a passion for solving complex problems for our clients, interacting in a team environment, and meeting established project requirements. This position is based in Virginia Beach, VA. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supports a Project Team of engineers and scientists in planning, executing, and documenting environmental engineering projects. Participates in studies supporting environmental engineering, planning, compliance, and site evaluations. Evaluates the applicability of state and federal environmental regulations. Prepares documents for regulatory agencies to obtain required permits. Communicates with Project Team on technical and administrative requirements. Schedules and attends internal meetings as necessary and documents key decisions and action items. Visits project sites to collect and document environmental site conditions, work progress and data. Completes project technical requirements within established budgets and schedules. Performs quality assurance activities. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related field from an accredited university 0 to 2 years of professional experience Ability to obtain professional licensure in the future a plus Experience in Department of Defense civil and environmental engineering and/or environmental compliance projects is a plus Environmental certifications in tank inspections, compliance evaluations, etc. are a plus. Excellent technical writing and communications skills. Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat. Proficient skills in AutoCAD will also be considered. Site visits may require the ability to traverse uneven terrain wearing PPE(Personal Protection Equipment) and carrying light equipment necessary for data collection and reporting. Since this position includes work in industrial environments, the position includes participation in a health monitoring program. Travel is required for this position and the individual must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., with a valid U.S. passport and eligible for security clearance. Travel requirements include domestic destination and may include international destinations.
The salary range for this position is $47,000 - $89,000 annual.
