Located in Ogden, Utah, ENVE Composites is a manufacturer of handmade carbon fiber bicycle rims and components. JOB SUMMARY This position will assist in building the final wheel assembly according to customer specifications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Verify build order for parts and serial numbers, then assemble wheel, hub and spokes per engineering and customer specifications and standard operating procedures (SOPs). The department's ability to succeed is dependent upon each team member working fast and efficiently. Ensure the final wheel is true and tension measurements are according to specifications, complete warranty card information and final qualify inspection. Monitor process and parts for quality control. Ensure all records are captured correctly. Maintain parts and supply inventory within the assigned department. SECONDARY FUNCTIONS Willingness to cross-train within the department, as well as learn other areas to support the Company's needs. Maintain a safe and orderly work environment. Adhere to all Company policies and procedures. Follow all procedures as they pertain to this position. Performs other duties as assigned. PERFORMANCE MEASURES Departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Effective communication and ability to work with all departments. Compliance with Company policies (e.g., safety, quality, attendance, etc.). SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This job does not have any supervisory responsibilities. This is a full-time position; days and hours of work are typically Monday through Thursday, 10 hours per day. However, this position may be required to work up to 12 hours per day, Friday's, Saturday's, or alternate shifts as job duties demand. Regular onsite attendance is expected and required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (R) = Required (P) = Preferred (Equivalent combinations will be considered) (P) High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); some technical school or college preferred.
(P) 1+ years' experience lacing, truing, and building wheels, preferably as a bicycle technician.
(P) Experience in a manufacturing environment.
(R) Basic computer/tablet/keyboard skills.
(R) Microsoft Excel, to look up spoke length chart.
(R) Proficiency with English.
(P) Experience using hand tools, including spoke wrench, truing stand, calipers, wheel alignment gauge and tension-meter.
(P) Knowledge of wheel truing process.
(P) Knowledge of cycling components and styles including rims, wheels, hubs, spokes, nipples, and bike.
SKILLS (LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL, REASONING, OTHER) Possess excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness. Adaptable to changing work environments, work priorities and organizational needs. Self-motivated and able to work independently and efficiently with general instruction and limited supervision. Possess communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customer service on issues with wheel sets. Ability to calculate and understand spoke lengths and hub widths. Ability to quickly learn new technologies. Ability to maintain the pace of work with production. Ability to read and comprehend a variety of SOPs and/or routine engineering design drawings. Ability to communicate effectively with others.   CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS (R) = Required (P) = Preferred None.
PHYSICAL / VISUAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to work in a loud environment with varying temperatures, maintaining close attention to detail. Requires standing for long periods of time; lifting, bending, sliding, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, wiping, and stretching are generally also required to perform the functions of this position. Requires using hands, arms, and upper body to manipulate the wheel and tensions while truing. May be required to work with chemicals (Chemlease, Acetone, IPA, dish soap, etc.). Must be able to lift tools and assemblies weighing up to 30 lbs.
