Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician III Instrumentation for the RWESS , supporting the Army Division. The technician will support the Instrumentation team and mission in a first shift position within the Redstone Test Center Climatic Test Division (ECC).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS HS/Diploma and associate degree in electronics or other technology-related discipline from an accredited college/university. 5 years of applicable experience supporting engineering or testing of hardware in the appropriate area of specialization; or 2 years of applicable college/vocational/military/technical school and 3 years of applicable experience in the assigned specialty area Must be certified (or capable of being certified within two years) to a Level I of the radiographic requirements of American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) TC-1A standard or equivalent. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants) Additional Qualifications that are required in order to be considered for the position. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS Experience programming and installing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and other equipment used in simple industrial process control environments. Basic PC networking skills using Windows (XP and newer) and Linux-based systems and good understanding of PC hardware and peripherals. Understanding of refrigeration systems and simple thermodynamic principles Demonstrated safe work history around 480V or higher voltage electrical systems. Experience/interest in photography and knowledge of exposure and digital editing processes Good written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to type at least 30 WPM (words per minute) with minimal errors. RESPONSIBILITIES Communicate with IT personnel and install hardware/cabling to ensure network connectivity for test and mission network assets as required, both for testing support and administrative operations, as well as RS-232 and RS-485 serial communications links. Ensure the needs of environmental testing are met with regards to PC and chamber controller equipment, audio/visual equipment, live data/video feeds and more, including installation of security cameras and networking equipment. Monitor, program, diagnose and repair environmental chamber control systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), Windows-based embedded controllers, electrical components (relays, circuit breakers, contactors, etc.) and associated cabling and wiring as needed in a variety of electrical potential environments, including 24V, 120V, and 480V systems. Design and build simple electrical control circuits to implement new control devices within existing environmental chamber equipment, such as new PLCs, limit controllers, safety and emergency stop devices, and audio/visual warning devices. Prepare, install and diagnose PC equipment in various form factors for use in environmental testing and administrative roles, including installing software and drivers, assigning static IP addresses, cloning and replacing various HDD/SSD devices, and replacing other I/O hardware. Communicate with engineers, technicians, and customers to discover and develop requirements, with the goal of optimizing and improving current and future processes while adhering to strict safety and performance standards. Ability to work overtime on occasion as required. Capable of working in hazardous environments, including extreme temperatures, and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Capable of obtaining and maintaining explosive safety certification and working around explosives.
