Description
The Division of Engineering and Contract Administration (DECA) is responsible for managing capital construction projects for a majority of the Executive Branch agencies throughout the Commonwealth. The Engineering Technical Assistant is responsible for managing the work performed by professional architectural or engineering services, as well as the work of crews contracted through statewide capital construction projects.
This position requires travel with occasional overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities: Supervises and coordinates the work of crews on capital construction projects for compliance with the contract documents and good construction practices. These crews consist of hired contractors and consultants. Assists project managers, client agencies, consultants and contractors in resolution of design/construction problems and issues. Investigates facilities problems and assists in appropriate resolution of problems and issues. Prepares cost estimates for construction projects. Reviews proposed cost changes for appropriateness. Participates in construction meetings and inspections. Knowledge/Skill/Abilities: Be experienced in building systems (roofing, HVAC, etc.) Be proficient with computers and the Microsoft Office suite Be detailed and organized Have good communication skills Able to work with user agency customers and must be able to hold contractors to their schedules We're looking for an experienced professional who likes working with people. EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree whose curriculum is approved by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of engineering related experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Certification as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) that is recognized by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Four years of engineering and/or construction related experience will substitute for the required bachelor's degree.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in offices and outside on construction and maintenance projects. Work is performed around heavy construction equipment and in all kinds of weather conditions. Travels to construction sites frequently.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
