Position: Engineering Manager
Reports to: Vice President of Preconstruction
Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to oversee all design functions and manage a team of designers. The ideal candidate will enhance our design process, deliver high-quality designs, stay current with the latest trends and technologies in system design, and train and develop our designers.
Key Responsibilities and Oversight:
Design Management:
* Oversee and execute complete designs for design-build/design-assist projects to ensure profitability, timely completion, and satisfaction of contractual obligations.
* Develop and improve the company's design process and capabilities.
Contract Documents:
* Read and interpret plans and specifications for both design-build and plan & spec projects.
* Conduct site visits to assess existing building systems and conditions.
* Compile comprehensive contract documents, including plans and specifications.
Productivity:
* Develop optimal work methods, prepare sketches and drawings, and secure approval for in-house construction standards.
* Allocate appropriate time for estimating, securing, and finalizing designs.
Training and Development:
* Train and mentor designers, project management, and coordination staff in design and constructability.
* Stay updated and educate staff on the latest industry trends and technologies.
Relationship Building:
* Build and maintain productive relationships with staff, project teams, owners, architects, customers, subcontractors, and vendors.
* Collaborate effectively with administrative staff to support record-keeping, proposals, and billings.
Engineering Design:
* Ensure compliance with codes, industry standards, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
* Maintain or acquire PE stamps in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, and obtain other state licenses as needed.
Design Execution:
* Develop efficient and cost-effective designs within project guidelines.
* Perform heat load calculations using the latest software.
* Maintain and update design and engineering software.
Estimating:
* Understand the components of an estimate, including equipment take-off, buy-out, and subcontractor selection.
* Provide value engineering evaluations for projects.
Project Management Support:
* Offer support and ideas to project management to enhance project profitability.
Qualifications:
* Proven experience in engineering design and management within the construction industry.
* Strong knowledge of codes, industry standards, and mechanical systems.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
* Proficiency in design and estimating software.
* PE license in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island (or willingness to obtain additional licenses as needed).
