Employee Relations Specialist I Location Santa Fe, NM : Salary $26.40 - $38.28 Hourly
$54,905 - $79,613 Annually

Why does the job exist? This position will serve as the Employee and Labor Relations Specialist regarding employee and labor issues. This position will be responsible for investigating alleged misconduct, drafts fact finding reports, disciplinary notices, internal complaint responses and union grievance responses; communicates and consults with managers, supervisors, Human Resources Director, and the Office of General Counsel regarding the disciplinary process. In addition, manage requests under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), facilitate alternative dispute resolutions, and manage all matters related to labor relations for the two labor unions Communication Workers of America (CWA).
How does it get done? Under general supervision of the Human Resources Director. Assist with conduct timely and accurate workplace investigations into allegations of misconduct, including, but not limited to harassment (including sexual harassment), discrimination, retaliation, insubordination, workplace violence, substance abuse, safety and security violations, and violations of GSD policies or procedures. Assist with preparing the investigative findings and briefing management on those findings. Assist mangers/supervisors with drafting documents related to progressive discipline which letters of counseling and letters of reprimand.. Assists managers/supervisors with developing and implementing Performance Development Plans. Track and manage Family Medical Leave paperwork/claims, including disability claims and annual/sick leave donation programs. Conducts training needs assessments to identify training needs and priorities. Provides consultation and training on employee relations and labor relations, loss control, safety, or equal opportunity practices. Assist HR Director with all matters related to labor relations for the Communication Workers of America (CWA); and with facilitating alternative dispute resolutions, Track all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) claims. Track and manage worker's compensation paperwork/claims. Who are the customers? This position supports all GSD program staff, as well as HR Director.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration or related field; and at least two (2) years' experience in Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) cases, well versed in federal and state laws regarding Civil Rights, EEO and Department of Labor enforcement practices; significant experience In case assessment and investigations; and excellent verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with internal and external customers at all organization levels.
Minimum Qualification Bachelor's Degree in any related field and one (1) year of experience in human resource operations; recruitment, selection, payroll, compensation, and benefits administration and/or occupational analysis. Substitutions apply.

If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver license. Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certification once employed.
Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting. Some standing, bending and reaching may be required.
