Position Summary: Re-Post, Previous Applicants Need Not Re-Apply, Still Under Consideration Under general supervision, perform journey-level work in the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel, and repair of mechanical electrical equipment and fixtures; and perform all other related work as required. This position is required to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and/or replace and test electrical systems; assemble, install, and repair wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, fixtures, etc. using hand tools and power tools. Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations; inspect related work performed by contractors; estimate cost, time, and materials for electrical projects; participate in the maintenance and operations of an electrical shop; clean, maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.
Minimum Qualifications: HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY; OR DEMONSTRATED POSSESSION OF THE COMPETENCIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE WORK. SOME POSITIONS MAY REQUIRE SPECIAL LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION. OPTIONAL GUIDELINES: EXPERIENCE IN THE TRADE AREA RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT MAY BE SUBSTITUTED ON A YEAR-FOR-YEAR BASIS.

Essential Tasks: Complete and document work requests in a timely manner. Review work orders assigned and prioritize work. Performs routine tasks, and checks work for accuracy before completion of tasks. This position is required to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and/or replace and test electrical systems. Review, plans, layout, and installation of electrical and electronic wiring, equipment, and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. Make recommendations and comments relevant to current trends and potential energy savings. Provide preliminary cost estimates for materials and services for facilities renovation projects and new construction. Inspect systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with national, state, and local codes and requirements. Responds to various work orders involving electrical systems in the residence halls as well as other systems including but not limited to plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry, etc. Staff will be courteous at all times.
