The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist works with site leadership and team members to implement and improve site safety, health, and environmental programs. The EHS Specialist operates under the supervision of the EHS Manager and within established procedures to provide technical support to EHS activities. The EHS Specialist will help ensure that Malarkey Roofing Products facilities provide safe work environments while complying with applicable EHS regulations.
Essential Functions include: Responsible for adherence to company policies, including safety and the use of personal protective equipment. Supports effective safety and environmental programs and recommends changes as appropriate by developing standard operating procedures, job safety analysis, and other written plans. Participates in incident investigations and supports follow-up corrective actions developed by the investigation team. Assists with conducting inspections, audits, and training programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company policies. Provides support for complying with permits, maintaining records, managing data, and assisting in preparing reports according to federal, state, and local laws. Educates, trains, and supports new hires and other personnel on safety, health, and environmental programs. Coordinates and assists with training in lecture and computer-based formats. Assists with implementation and resolution of safety work orders. Supports the hazard assessment process and administers assignments from the EHS Manager to prevent future hazards. Compiles site data to support the EHS Manager in preparing EHS metrics and analysis. Assists with industrial hygiene assessments, including coordinating and sample collection. Maintains the Environmental, Health, and Safety communication boards. Reviews and maintains Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) on materials used in the workplace. Maintains EHS inventory such as personal protective equipment, orders supplies, and processes invoice in the accounting software. Supports plant emergency plans and procedures and coordinates practice exercises in preparation for emergency responses. Supports and facilitates an employee safety engagement program and a plant recycling program. Helps ensure proper waste disposal and supports a plant-wide effort to minimize waste. Knowledge, Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree in an Environmental, Health, and Safety-related field of Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or related technical discipline. At least five years' EHS experience is preferred.
Familiarity with various EHS concepts, practices, and procedures, including knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Labor (DOL), environmental laws, and other EHS laws recommended. EHS-related licenses, certifications, and membership in professional associations are desired. The ability to create an environment around EHS that is front of mind, real-time, and embedded in the everyday behaviors of our colleagues are preferred.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work preferred. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
