Position Summary: The BJU School of Education and Human Services, Division of Teacher Education is seeking an individual for a part-time, 9-month faculty teaching position in middle/secondary English education. Successful candidates will have degree(s) in English education, English, curriculum & instruction or related fields. Experience in K-12 middle/secondary education is desired. Faculty in this position will teach a variety of education courses in the middle/secondary and English education programs. We seek a teacher-scholar whose responsibilities include teaching, scholarly activity, student advising, and service to the division, school, and university.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and teach undergraduate courses in middle/secondary and English educationAdvise undergraduate students in the English education majorHelp develop curriculum and field experience activitiesCoordinate and supervise student internships in community settingsRecruit, advise, and mentor undergraduate studentsCollaborate with faculty and community stakeholders for program improvementWork closely with other University, School, and Division faculty and professionalsParticipate in program governance and assessment at the School and University levels as well as contribute to one's professional organizationsServe on University, School and Division committeesProvide assistance in writing and submitting documents and reports associated with accreditationHelp create and/or assist with online, hybrid and in-residence coursesParticipate in continuous assessment of program-level and student learning outcomesDevelop personal and undergraduate researchSeek external funds to support program activities and student scholarshipsDevelop and maintain positive community relations with relevant educational organizations such as Greenville County SchoolsParticipate with student recruitmentProvide service to the University and professional organizationsPerform other job-related duties as assigned REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Evidence of ability to teach a variety of middle/secondary and English education coursesRelevant professional experience working with middle school and secondary children and familiesDemonstrated commitment to biblical worldview through teaching, curriculum development, scholarship focus and serviceStrong background and interest in middle/secondary and English education program development, implementation, and/or evaluationCommitment to and engagement in community outreachThe candidate must hold a minimum of Master's degree in English education, English or a closely related fieldCandidates with terminal degrees or ABD candidates are preferred. Those holding a Master's in related fields along with credentials and/or an extensive background in the discipline will also be consideredExperience teaching in higher education (e.g., college/university) online or in-residence is preferredProficiency in Microsoft OfficeExcellent analytical, oral/written communication skills, and teamworkGood leadership abilityGood organizational skillsGood interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work as part of a teamEffective teaching and assessment skillsAbility to collaborate with community agencies and other professionals mentoring senior internsAbility to successfully pass a background checkProficiency in Microsoft Office SuitePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 5+ years of teaching experience in areas of early childhood education or elementary educationDemonstrated success in education, research and scholarly activities such as adjunct workCERTIFICATES & LICENSES: Teaching certification or license is preferred#LI-Onsite
