Position: Dissection Assistant

Department: Anatomy & Physiology

Pay Range: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour

Schedule: Part-time (15-20 hours per week, fall semester)

Location: On-site in Provo, UT 

POSITION SUMMARY Assist students during their scheduledanatomy labs each week. o Dissection assistants will attend at least threeof the six two-hour anatomy labs each week from September 25 th through mid-December.
o During labs, small groups of medical students followa written lab guide as they study prosections to learn human anatomy.
o Under the direction of anatomy faculty, dissectionassistants will help guide students as they explore the available prosections,identify/confirm anatomical structures for students, and help the labs runsmoothly.
Prepare anatomical specimens for use in anatomylab (training will be provided). o Some Noorda-COM specimens are dissected bysecond-year medical students in our dissection course. It is likely that thesespecimens will need to be touched up before they are used for teaching.
o There may be opportunities of dissecting aspecimen from start to finish in preparation for the course.
o Training for these tasks will be provided by theanatomy faculty.
Attend weekly training meetings. o There will be a weekly training meeting foranatomy staff to prepare for upcoming labs.
o Dissection assistants are required to attendthese training meetings before working with students.
o Dissection assistants are expected to use the trainingresources that will be provided to come prepared to each training meeting.
Hold lab office hours. o Dissection assistants may elect to hold laboffice hours to assist groups of students outside of regularly scheduled labs.
Assist with lab quizzes where applicable(set up quizzes, administer group quizzes, grade quizzes, etc.) Clean and organize the lab and labinstruments. Assist anatomy faculty where needed.  QUALIFICATIONS Education Abaccalaureate or currently pursuing a baccalaureate.   Experience TA experience in an undergraduate anatomyprogram. Dissection experience is preferred, but notrequired.  Skills and Abilities Able to convey anatomical concepts in a clearand concise manner. Can guide students through the learningprocess. Passionate about deepening their understandingof human anatomy. A team-member that elevates the colleagues andstudents they work with. An exceptional listener with excellentcommunication skills. Flexible and able to adapt to changingpriorities. Innovative, resourceful, detailed oriented,with excellent follow through skills. Self-motivated, self-disciplined, and a strongwork ethic.   SCHEDULE Part-time (15-20 hours per week) Must be in person in Provo, Utah. Fall semester.
o July-September dissections and coursepreparation (can be flexible with start date)
o Late September-December course involvement
Monday – Friday (can elect to hold weekendoffice hours)
o During the course, three labs will be held onMondays and the other three labs will either be held on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
PAY $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
