We believe a successful university education leads to enhanced self-efficacy, civic engagement, and social and global awareness. It also enlarges the moral imagination and instills skills and habits that assist people in securing gainful employment and living meaningful, responsible lives. By making higher education more accessible and supporting formerly incarcerated students to excel in a course of study, Project Rebound constructs an alternative to the revolving door policy of mass incarceration. Cal State Fullerton (CSUF) Project Rebound is one of the campus programs within the CSU Project Rebound Consortium. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Director, Project Rebound Program (Student Services Professional IV). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.The Director for Project Rebound oversees the entire program for the Project Rebound initiative at Cal State Fullerton. The successful candidate will have experience successfully navigating a University campus that enables them to effectively mentor formerly incarcerated students and build community among formerly incarcerated students and the wider University community. The Project Rebound Director acts as a liaison and will develop and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with faculty, staff, and administrators in various departments on campus (e.g., Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Academic and Student Affairs), local community colleges, and key stakeholders and partners in the external community (e.g., reentry organizations, probation, parole, corrections, juvenile detention facilities, etc.) that promote the success of Project Rebound. The Director will conduct workshops for prospective students in correctional facilities and community organizations assisting prospective students in understanding the process of applying to and succeeding in higher education. Please add additional information as you see necessary and applicable:• What diversity means to you.• A description of your experiences with a diverse range of individuals.• A description of how issues of diversity have impacted you personally or professionally.Essential QualificationsBachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution. Four years of professional student services work experience including experience advising students individually and in groups, as well as the analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, clinical psychology, social work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for two years of professional experience.General knowledge of the problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel, and fiscal management. Knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities and of the overall organization.A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. Preferred QualificationsBilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Education Master's degree preferred. Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Two to five years' experience related to duties and responsibilities specified. Strong preference will be given to candidates who have succeeded in overcoming barriers like those confronting the project's target population (i.e., a formerly incarcerated person). Knowledge of the various segments of post-secondary institutions and opportunities for students from low income and underrepresented backgrounds. Knowledge of local, state, and federal corrections systems, parole, probation, housing, and public policy that affects the formerly incarcerated. Proficiency working with computers and popular software packages. Must be able to work independently and take initiative.
