Position Scope: It shall be the responsibility of the Director to oversee the planning and implementation of goal oriented group and individual recreation programs in all areas that meet the assessed needs of all residents in order to maintain or improve the resident's physical, social, emotional and mental wellbeing in a manner that meets all Federal and State regulations, and standards of practice for therapeutic recreation, and which exceeds the resident's expectations.Education and Experience:Education: College degree in Therapeutic Recreation or other related degree required. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or Certified Activity Director preferred.Experience: Three years prior experience in Therapeutic Recreation programming and documentation in a long-term care setting required with one year supervisory experience preferred.Responsibilities:Oversees the development of a monthly recreation schedule for each unit which is based on resident assessed needs and expressed interests.Plans and coordinates facility-wide recreation events and outings.Schedules and coordinates entertainment events and maintains access to community resources.Oversees the implementation of specialized recreation programs for the dementia, young adults, sub-acute Rehab, and other special populations to meet their assessed needs.Provides opportunities for the residents to decide on and assist in the planning of activities programs.Assures that the current monthly recreation schedule is posted on each unit where it is accessible to residents, visitors, and staff and can be easily read.Coordinates recreation programs with other disciplines, solicits support, schedules internal and external transportation and works with the Volunteer department to secure volunteer assistance as needed.Assures that Therapeutic Recreation staff are checking that each resident has a physician order for activity.Assures that all documentation complies with State, Federal and facility regulations.Assures that the resident's medical record includes a quarterly assessment of the resident's participation, response, and satisfaction with the recreation programs at least quarterly.Develops and keeps updated a set of Recreation Therapy written Policies and Procedures and secures approval of Administrator.Develops and updates job descriptions for all positions within the department. Secures approval of the Administrator and Human Resources.Hires, trains, develops, counsels, evaluates and terminates Recreation Therapy personnel and assists in the same with assigned volunteers.Assigns duties and supervises all Recreation Therapy personnel and volunteers.Secures and maintains records of incoming and outgoing petty cash for ordering of supplies, equipment, sales, petty cash spending, etc.)Secures and maintains an ongoing inventory of supplies and equipment. Develop and maintain annual budget within approved parameters.Participates in and provides in-service education programs for department staff and other employees.Maintains program records (staff meetings, statistical reports, attendance, documentation of in-service education, continuing education conferences, and etc.)Provides the Quality Improvement Committee with quarterly statistical reports including the type, frequency, and number of residents participating in the activity program and a plan of action to improve in any areas identified as trends.Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.HIPAA COMPLIANCE: Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to LCMN policies and HIPAA regulations governing the confidentiality and security of protected health information for both manual and electronic resident records, charts, information and other confidential information including (but not limited to) employee records, computer access codes and passwords.PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS: Appropriate attire as required by departmental dress code.WORKING CONDITIONS:Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.Subject to frequent interruptions.Involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personal.Communicates with the other departments.May be asked to work beyond normal working hours.Attends and participates in inservice educational programs, maintains required hours.PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS (with or without the aide of mechanical devices)Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.Must be in good health, be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of this position.Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, angry people within the facility.Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of thirty five pounds.Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.WORKER TRAITS Verbal ability is necessary to orient services to the residents in varying levels of intelligence and interests. To understand medical terminology as related to resident therapy programs. Motor coordination eye, hand, and foot coordination to lead and participate in such recreational activities as dancing, group sports and games is also required.
