Position Summary~OPEN TO CURRENT STANISLAUS STATE EMPLOYEES ONLY~Full-time position available on or after June 3, 2024 the Office of Information Technology.The Director of Technology Services is responsible for overseeing the Technology Services division within the Office of Information Technology at the University, providing comprehensive infrastructure support for various technology applications, including voice, video, and data network design and maintenance, cable plant management, data center operations, server maintenance, backup systems, identity management, and email administration. Manages a team of skilled network and operating systems analysts and specialists, guiding them in delivering hardware and software technical assistance across all technology infrastructure elements. Additionally, spearheads the phased migration of infrastructure to cloud-based solutions. Accountable for the administration, supervision, and professional growth of the Technology Services division, while also fostering productive relationships with external management and administrative support personnel to address their technology needs. Operates with autonomy and minimal oversight.Job DutiesDuties include but are not limited to:Lead the staff in the day-to-day process of maintaining the campus technology infrastructure, including: Palo Alto Networks, Alcatel and Aruba routers, switches, firewalls, access points, and other network devices; DNS/TCP/IP systems, 911 call processing; University e-mail and associated systems and services; Microsoft Windows and Linux / Unix server administration, both in the cloud and locally hosted; cable television head-end and video distribution infrastructure; network security, physical access control and video surveillance systems; VoIP hosted phone service; data backup system, network management and security systems, network on-ramping and network access control systems, encryption, and other systems as assigned by the AVP/CIO.Attends meetings with other OIT managers.Manages the work of the Technology Services staff.Manages the day-to-day operations of the Data Center and other campus-wide technology infrastructure components.Manages work assignments and schedules for staff to provide accurate and timely support of the University's technology Infrastructure.Assists staff in solving problems and coordinates resources within OIT to assist as appropriate.Assist in recruiting and training employees.Assist with annual performance evaluations and ensure the professional development of staff.Provide leadership for OIT direct reports, including recruiting, setting goals, conducting performance appraisals, career development, succession planning, coaching, and mentoring.Participate in regional, national, and international higher education committees and/or conferences.Works with management and staff in departments and with other CSUs in the implementation and support of networking and operating system technologies.Plan, organize and direct the evolution of the campus technology infrastructure in consultation with other OIT management and the AVP/CIO.Formulate department goals and objectives, establish priorities, and implement plans, policies and procedures. Plan phased move from on premise systems to Cloud based Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) (like AWS, Azure, etc.) or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) providers.Other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsEducation: Bachelors of Science degree in management information systems, computer information stems, computer science, computer engineering, or related field.Experience: Five (5) years of related experience in an information technology setting.Preferred QualificationsExperience in the analysis, development and implementation of enterprise level information systems.Prior work experience in a higher education setting, management/supervisory experience preferably in a union environment.Experience with hosted cloud solutions such as AWS or Azure.Demonstrated presentation skills.Prior experience with database management software (Oracle, SQL Server, etc.).Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesThorough understanding of data, voice, and video networking design and administration.Thorough understanding of computer operating systems, with emphasis on Microsoft Windows, IOS and Linux.Knowledge of information security and confidentiality rules and regulations (i.e. FERPA, HIPPA, etc.).Demonstrated collaborative approach to problem solving across the institution.Demonstrated knowledge of a broad range of information technologies including administrative and academic computing, telecommunications, information management and information security.Demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends and issues in information technology.Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and articulate IT directions and choices to institutional officers and others in the university community.Demonstrated Success in budget and organizational management.Excellent communication skills.Demonstrated commitment to staff diversity, learning, and development.Special ConditionsAvailable to work multiple shifts (day /evening/after-hours/on-call) and weekends when required to align with the operational needs of the campus and department.Must be available to respond to emergency situations on an as-needed basis and be reachable at all times by cell phone or other means.Travel may be required on a regular basis to attend CSU system-wide meetings and conferences.Valid California driver's licensePhysical RequirementsThe physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
