Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives Position Title: Director of Operations The Agency You'll Join:

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives (DMSI) ensures that City government solves
problems through holistic, accountable, and transparent means. With a focus on many of the
administration's top priorities – from creating opportunities for young people to strengthening the city's
civic infrastructure – the office works in partnership with stakeholders inside and outside of city
government to develop, scale, coordinate, and deliver policies, plans and operations in an equitable and
sustainable way. The Problems You'll Solve
Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Director of Operations will track and monitor progress on key
performance indicators in support of project goals; anticipate, identify, and quickly solve any
implementation roadblocks; and coordinate and facilitate convenings with internal and external project
stakeholders.
Duties include, but are not limited to: Lead Critical Citywide Initiatives – Provide insight and direction in addressing process issues that hinder agency functional operations. Interagency Coordination — Initiate and coordinate interagency projects that increase overall City efficiency, collaboration, and the consistency of policy. Manage the development,
formulation and coordination of interagency working groups or task forces. Analysis and Advice —Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis, identifying trends and producing research questions and analysis in support of project goals. Based on that analysis,
make recommendations to the Chief of Staff and Deputy Mayor. Program Monitoring – Act as a liaison to team members and agencies to track and monitor progress on a portfolio of mayoral initiatives and commitments. Project Management — Manage project responsibilities, review work products, and ensure efficient progress on implementation. Specific tasks may involve: o Team Management
Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives Work directly with Advisement team to develop project engagement agreements, project plans, status reports and project close-out documentation in order to
estimate work effort, plan, oversee and carry out activities, track progress and
achieve deliverables. Provide team direction and vision, including motivating people to perform, listening to people, providing feedback, recognizing strengths and providing
challenges. o Project Oversight Manage the day-to-day operational aspects of a project. Identify resources needed and assign individual responsibilities. Revise project documents as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Create a structure for project documentation and remain conscientious in using it and ensuring that the project team understands and uses it.
o Communication
Generate various project-related documents including status reports, presentations, meeting agendas and summary notes. Facilitate regular team and stakeholder meetings effectively. Communicate relevant project information to stakeholders. Prepare and deliver informative, well-organized presentations. Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion. Understand how and when to communicate difficult/sensitive information appropriately. About You Strong project management and leadership skills Excellent communication, writing, research, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, time- management and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to take initiative, prioritize duties, pay
close attention to detail, prioritize tasks, work independently and under pressure to meet
specific deadlines; Experience in mediating among groups with competing perspectives, overseeing and improving of the operational efficiency of complicated organizations, and pioneering innovative solutions to
intricate problems; Ability to think creatively, a willingness to consider new approaches; The ideal candidate will have a baccalaureate degree in public policy, public administration, business, social work, psychology, sociology or other relevant graduate degree. Graduate degree is preferred.
Salary
The City of New York Office of the Mayor's compensation package includes a market competitive salary,
equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role is
$140,000 Min Salary – $150,000 Max Salary. Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise, and other
factors.
