Position Title: Director of Music and LiturgyLocation: St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, IowaSalary: Negotiated with BenefitsFLSA Classification: ExemptReports to: PastorJob Summary:The Director of Liturgy and Music is an integral member of the parish staff who assists the pastor in his responsibility as primary liturgist.The Director provides leadership, expertise, and pastoral sensitivity in the planning and execution of parish liturgies in accordance with the Catholic Church, Archdiocesan policies and guidelines.The Director oversees and develops the parish liturgical music, the musicians, and fosters the active musical participation of the assembly.Qualifications/RequirementsKnowledge of and support for official Church teachings, including knowledge of the Church's liturgy, norms, and lawsBachelor's degree in Liturgy, Liturgical Music, Theology or a related fieldHas experience working in parish ministrySkilled in voice, piano, organExperience directing a choir and leading rehearsalsVersatility in a variety of musical stylesDuties/ResponsibilitiesPlan all weekend and Holy Day liturgies throughout the liturgical yearAssists, coordinates and plans sacramental liturgies (First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, Confirmation, Mass of Anointing of the Sick, etc.)Directs Celebration Choir/Youth Christmas Eve Choir/Resurrection Choir and oversees Glory ChoirAccompanies for Sunday Masses on a frequent basisCoordinates, trains, and recruits liturgical ministers including lectors, greeters, ushers, servers, Eucharistic Ministers, sacristans, accompanists, singers, and instrumentalistsImplements recommendations from the Liturgy CommissionAssists engaged couples in planning their wedding liturgyWorks with Pastoral Associate to coordinate funeral liturgiesSupervises parish Environment and Art CommitteeCollaborates with Director of Faith Formation for OCIA RitesLeads seasonal Morning & Evening Prayer and other prayer services as neededServes as a resource to St. Pius X School and parish Religious EducationKeeps music files up to date and ensures copyright laws are followedProvides for the on-going formation of liturgical ministers, musicians, and Liturgy CommitteeMaintains budget for the worship and liturgical life of the parishSupervises sacristan/church needsPersonal and ProfessionalA practicing Catholic in good standing with the ChurchCommitment to on-going professional education, formation, and personal spiritual growth through study, research, workshops, and seminarsHas good organizational and communication skillsAble to work well with adults/high school/childrenCollaborates with parish staffThis full-time position is eligible for Parish and Archdiocese benefits.
