The Office of International Programs (OIP) is a key driver of global engagement for the University of Puget Sound, helping to provide strategic vision for the institution and coordinating opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. Global engagement is also an integral part of Puget Sound's Logger Experiential Learning Commitment, which empowers students to bridge the gap between knowing and doing and to develop a deeper understanding of self, others, and the world. Position Description
The Director provides strategic and budgetary leadership in support of global engagement, advising the President, Provost, Academic Deans, senior administrators, and faculty on international policies, opportunities, and events that impact members of the campus community. The Director manages the OIP and is primarily responsible for all matters related to study abroad, international students, scholarly exchange and international scholars/visitors. The director also participates in the day-to-day work of the office, including student advising, and collaborates with the Enrollment Division on international recruitment efforts. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and strategic planning for university global engagement, including but not limited to study abroad and international student and scholar programs
Manage office procedures, study abroad programs, and international student services
Manage all aspects of the Office of International Programs budget
Implement program and administrative policies and procedures related to global engagement
Provide status and other reports on international education to the President, senior administrators, university committees, and departments
Collaborate with administrative offices, including Admissions and Student Financial Services, as well as the faculty International Education Committee
Serve as liaison to program providers and overseas institutions, including for crisis management
Advise international students and prospective study abroad students
Plan and support campus events related to study abroad and international students (e.g., orientation, annual study abroad fair, pre-departure and welcome sessions, etc.)
Serve as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO) for SEVIS-related matters
Serve as contact with US Customs and Immigration Service (USCIS) and US Department of State regarding immigration regulations, monitoring international students and scholars, and complying with regulations
Provide immigration information and advising for all incoming international visiting lecturers, researchers, and faculty prior to arrival on campus
Provide immigration information to campus departments to assure the university complies with federal immigration and revenue reporting responsibilities
Provide advice and logistical support for faculty members interested in developing faculty-led study abroad programs
Other duties as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities

1. Assistant Director of Study Abroad
2. International Programs Coordinator
3. Second-line supervision of the student worker(s) supervised by the Assistant Director of Study Abroad Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience in the field of international education
Bachelor's degree
Knowledge of current issues and best practices related to international education both on campus and abroad
Overseas living or work experience
Knowledge of higher education systems outside the U.S.
US eligibility requirements to qualify for the role of Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO), which include being a US citizen or permanent resident.
Practical knowledge of SEVIS and other applicable federal government regulations pertaining to non-immigrant F-1/J-1 visa holders.
Ability to respectfully work, communicate, and provide leadership within a diverse campus community Preferred Qualifications
A Master's Degree in a field pertinent to international education such as: international education, intercultural communications, international relations, student services personnel, or higher education administration.
Intermediate knowledge of immigration regulations pertaining to non-immigrant F-1 and J-1 visa holders and at least one year of service as a Designated School Official (DSO) or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
Experience at a liberal arts college
Superior interpersonal, organizational, analytical, writing, and speaking abilities
Experience in budget management and forecasting
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, and individuals from different cultural backgrounds
Experience advising international students and/or students on study abroad programs
Strong technology skills, including experience managing website content and online forms, and functional knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and Google Workspace
Experience working with faculty on developing faculty-led study abroad programs and curriculum integration
Experience working with study abroad program providers Compensation and Benefits:
The anticipated range for this position is $85,000 to $90,000 annualized. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.

Please note:
-Positions that work less than .75 FTE (1,560 hours per year) do not qualify for long-term disability or education benefits.
-Positions that work less than .50 FTE (1,040 hours per year) will accrue paid sick leave but are not eligible for additional benefits.
-Temporary positions that work at least .50 FTE (1,040 hours per year) will be eligible for benefits.
This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
