Description:
SUMMARY The Director of Finance and Accounting directs the establishment and implementation of the organization's accounting policies and procedures. Has overall responsibility for assigned accounting operations and systems as well as associated analysis and report preparation. Will oversee all accounting tasks relating to income, accounts payable processing, account receivable collection, audit schedules and preparing financial statements.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance required. Experience in working with general ledger, financial statements, and account reconciliation. Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge is desired. Experience using Microsoft Office products required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (And other duties as assigned)
Works collaboratively and strategically in a team environment with all levels of professional, technical, and administrative staff to ensure the fulfillment of HACU's mission, goals, and objectives. Develops and maintains accounting policies and procedures Hires, trains, mentors and supervises employees Reviews purchase requisitions to ensure general ledger and budget codes are appropriate for the item(s) being purchased Oversees disbursements to vendors based on reconciliation of invoices, purchase orders and receiving documents Oversees the preparation of all remittance information to be send with each payment Oversees that necessary information is maintained to ascertain which vendors are subject to 1099 reporting and generating 1099 forms. Oversees American Express card records and post transactions to the general ledger Oversees the preparation of bi-weekly payroll input Responsible for reconciliation of assigned general ledger accounts. Analyzes actual monthly revenue and expense account balances to budget amounts and investigates variances. Prepares reports required by corporate and foundational grants and contracts. Prepares monthly cash flow projections as needed. Responsible for setting up individuals in accounting software and provide troubleshooting assistance Assists with annual audit Maintains inventory of the organization's assets Discharge other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or senior management. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises the activities of the Senior Accountant and the Finance/Project Coordinator. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business and educational journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, educational institutions, corporate and public groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Good communication and writing skills. Computer knowledgeable of all Microsoft office products including Excel and Word. Must be able to travel on occasion.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT Employee will work a standard of 40 hours a week; however, longer hours may be necessary at times. Working conditions are in an office environment. Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10 pounds. Occasionally move about the office Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. Positions self to perform essential functions of the job in an office setting. Must be able to remain in a stationary position. Maintains and ensures the security of HACU-issued equipment, software, data, and supplies. Conferences and events may take place in hotel and/or convention center settings and require longer hours of work on a constantly changing schedule, including work on weekends and evenings. Must be able to pass a criminal background check. Must be able to travel (max 20%). Must have a valid driver's license.
