S taff Posting: Director of Strategic Initiatives for Development
UVA's Office of University Advancement (UA) seeks candidates for the Director of Strategic Initiatives for Development. The Director of Strategic Initiatives will support the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Development in the creation, planning, execution, and evaluation of programs and projects that enhance fundraising efforts for schools, units, and university priorities.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
Lead the development team's annual strategic planning and goal setting process, track progress throughout the year, and serve as an implementation resource to team leaders and chief development officers.
Advise on and coordinate the process for developing, collecting, and assessing progress on school/unit/priority campaign and annual fundraising plans.
Oversee large, cross-functional, team-wide projects or initiatives by engaging stakeholders and helping to drive execution and implementation.
Research, perform benchmarking, analyze data, and make recommendations on fundraising program enhancements.
Develop and execute leadership and planning retreats, team-building events, and functional meetings throughout the year, especially in conjunction with UA's signature programs, such as Week of Learning, Day of Learning, Collaboration Days, etc.
Provide consultation, coordination, and implementation assistance to development directors on key school/unit/priority projects and share best practices across teams.
Create and support management of diverse internal committees, task forces, and working groups.
Support the AVP and other UA senior leaders in the delivery, coordination, and enhancement of UA's Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) partner program with schools and units.
Prepare agendas, materials, presentations, and communications for meetings with deans, academic leaders, as well as boards and councils.
Liaise with key partners in University Advancement on shared initiatives and processes, including but not limited to: prospect management and research, business intelligence, service center (conducting searches), stewardship, donor relations, events, annual giving, engagement, and advancement communications. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree
At least seven years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in higher education development.
Experience working with the C- suite level of an organization.
Demonstrated ability to interact with executive level administrators, donors/prospects, alumni, and development staff, with an understanding of protocol, political environment and implications, and confidentiality.
Proven critical thinking and decision-making skills with ability to adjust and adapt when unforeseen situations arise.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to thrive in a collaborative and nuanced environment.
Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. This role requires domestic and periodic international travel to attend meetings and staff events, as well as the ability to work evenings and weekend events on an as-needed basis.
University Advancement supports a flexible and hybrid workplace, and UVA offers an onsite workspace in Charlottesville, VA. All team members who opt for a hybrid work arrangement must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools. This position is required to work intermittently in a shared office space located in Charlottesville, Virginia and the incumbent must live within driving distance of Charlottesville.
This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $110,000.00 to $130,000.00 commensurate with education and experience.
