Position Purpose: The Director of Communications will be responsible for all communication channels between the organization and the public. Their responsibilities encompass both internal and external messaging, ensuring alignment with the company's outreach strategies, brand guidelines, and core values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Promotes a positive image and represents the voice of the Tribe.  Collaborates with various programs and departments within the Tribe. Advises, trains, and assists personnel on communication strategies and information sharing specific to Tribal Events and community engagement. Creates, updates, measures, and reports on engagement plans and strategies and ensures they are consistent with the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma overall public relations/communications plan and direction. Works in coordination with the tribal directors and program managers in identifying and developing written content for media dissemination. Ensures key stakeholders are informed and consulted accordingly. Assist with the implementation and political engagement activities on behalf of the Tribe. Coordinates and monitors the editorial process for the newsletter. Develops, writes, and/or edits press releases, copywriting for social media, articles for various print formats, and public notices - always ensuring the accuracy of information provided—on tribal divisions and programs. Assists with developing community engagement campaigns, maintaining and expanding tribal presence on assorted social media platforms, including responding to questions and general concerns to online comments. Assists with photographing tribal events and community functions for the development of promotional materials and media articles. Maintain confidentiality at all times and keep confidential information within the department. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, or a minimum of ten (10) years in marketing is required in lieu of education.  Ten (10) years of Director experience in Tribal government or Tribal Casino marketing is required. A deep understanding of advertising, social media, PR, internal communication, website, and events. Proven success of capitalizing on market trends and understanding of the dynamics of all media. Ability to collaborate with shared marketing services. Proven leadership skills and comfortable in a team setting. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interface and presentation skills are mandatory. Solid writing, proofing, and editing skills.  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Teamwork and the ability to lead and motivate staff to produce high-level, brand-driven content.  Written, verbal and digital communication skills. Analytical skills to solve problems and find the best way to convey a message. The creativity to produce exciting and interesting content. Organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects while working on a deadline or in a fast-paced environment. The technological ability to work on a variety of digital platforms and create web and mobile content.  Certifications: Valid Driver's License and Insurance. Confidentiality:  Confidentiality is an absolute must for this position and is cause for immediate termination if not followed to the highest standard.  Conditions of Employment: The Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma operates a drug-free workplace.
May be required to submit to and pass applicable drug test and background check. Adhere to all work rules, policies & procedures, and safety standards. Work Requirements: Position involves prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, or bending, lifting, or carrying 30 pounds on a daily basis. Work is generally performed in an office environment with varying levels of lighting, air quality, noise, and / or temperature.
