Description: Washington and Lee University School of Law invites applications for the position of Director of Bar Success to begin no later than July 1, 2024. This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty position. A Juris Doctor degree is required, as well as professional experience in bar readiness, academic success programming, or the equivalent. Candidates should have familiarity with the Uniform Bar Examination, the NextGen Bar Examination, and current bar examination formats in U.S. jurisdictions.
Responsibilities Include:
Work collaboratively with the Director of Academic Excellence and faculty to design and implement an overall plan for our students' bar preparedness and success Contribute to the design and teaching of a third-year bar preparation course and a second-year skills-focused course Design and facilitate a new bar exam mentor program Work collaboratively with the Director of Academic Excellence and faculty to strengthen the academic techniques of case briefing, legal analysis, essay writing, review and outlining, and test-taking practices Assist with the analysis of bar examination data to recommend improvements in bar preparation programming and needed curricular changes Stay abreast of necessary changes in student programming as jurisdictions across the United States adopt the NextGen Bar Examination or other examination Work collaboratively with the administration and the Director of Academic Excellence to incorporate skills training in orientation and pre-orientation programming Facilitate student workshops in the fall and spring semesters Advise, coach, and encourage students on an individual basis Provide faculty support for integration of bar skills in doctrinal teaching, particularly as U.S. jurisdictions transition to the administration of the NextGen Bar Examination Teach courses to ensure the analytical, reasoning, and writing skills necessary for success during law school, on the bar examination, and in the future practice of law Other duties consistent with the overall goals of the Law School, including, but not limited to, advising students, serving on law school committees, and teaching various courses that support the law school curriculum and foster bar preparedness The Law School believes deeply in the transformative power of legal education, and student success is vital to its mission.
