The Director of Construction and Facilities Management leads a dynamic department responsible for comprehensive facilities operations, construction, and infrastructure maintenance with a primary focus on fostering a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for staff, students, and visitors
The position oversees all facets of facilities management, from strategic planning at the leadership level to hands-on supervision of front-line managers engaged in day-to-day operations
The director also collaborates closely with College leadership on strategic facilities planning
This role combines strategic vision with operational excellence to ensure the College's facilities align with its mission.
This position has supervisory responsibilities and reports to the CFO/Vice President of Finance & Administration Position open until filled

Apply today to join the Gateway Family! RESPONSIBILITIES Capital Planning and Budget Management: Continuously improve facilities capital planning processes. Plan and monitor budgets for operations and capital expenditures. Prepare documentation for project approval by the WTCS Board and ensure compliance with local and state statutes. Develop and implement a Building Information Modeling (BIM) plan for the District. Project Planning and Implementation: Lead the planning and implementation of large facilities projects. Develop and implement process planning documents and tools for capital projects including room utilization reports for effective project planning. Manage architectural and construction management agreements. Codes and Compliance: Assure compliance with local and state statutes related to building construction, remodeling, and purchasing requirements. Interpret codes related to building maintenance, fire safety, building standards, plumbing and electrical codes, elevator safety standards, etc. Department Leadership and Management: Oversee the Facilities Department, including maintenance, custodial, project management, mail operations, and shipping/receiving. Manage front-line managers responsible for day-to-day operations. Develop and implement staffing strategies, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation. Strategic Facilities Planning: Collaborate with College leadership on strategic facilities planning. Work with key stakeholders to evaluate and project future facility needs. Propose options and provide strategic advice on land use, facility design, and project timing. Security and Collaborative Initiatives: Collaborate with Security Services on facility-related security concerns. Participate as a partner in the College's security operations. Feedback and Continuous Improvement: Develop and implement feedback processes for project completion and ongoing building systems operations. Use feedback for continuous improvement in facilities management. Personnel Supervision: Supervise assigned staff/personnel. Conduct interviews, hiring, and staffing level recommendations. Address employee complaints and recommend adjustments or disciplinary actions. WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in business management or related field preferred with 5+ years of related experience OR High School diploma or GED with 10+ years of related experience PLUS Five years of supervisory experience General knowledge of electrical, HVAC, BAS, mechanical, plumbing, piping, hydraulics, pneumatics, and construction
In-depth knowledge in several areas desired Ability to read architectural and engineering drawings Demonstrated budgeting and project management skills Must possess and maintain a current driver's license Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, and project management software Other required knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ability and willingness to learn additional broad and specialized construction and maintenance knowledge and skills. Ability to meet deadlines and handle problem situations with minimal supervision. Ability to provide effective guidance to staff assigned to project development and implementation. Demonstrated evidence of successful customer-oriented leadership. Demonstrated accountability in all actions. Demonstrated conflict resolution skills. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and community representatives, and contractors. Ability to communicate effectively, oral and written, with a wide variety of internal and external audiences. Demonstrated flexibility, including the acceptance of and willingness to change. Highly motivated and willing to take risks and try new things.
