Job DescriptionUnder the direction of the Digital Collections Archivist, the Digital Collections Specialist is responsible for building a digital collection based in the Rick Boucher Papers. They will select, digitize, and process the digital files for inclusion in a digital Rick Boucher collection maintained by the University Libraries.Tasks include creating metadata for new digital objects and legacy digitized visual material, as well as creating digital exhibits. The successful applicant will be familiar with the use of descriptive metadata standards, and will have archival research experience.The Digital Collections Specialist will work closely and collaboratively with the collection's donor and Special Collections and University Archives staff in implementing new digital collections, and refining existing content for deposit to a new online collections access platform. The position requires an individual who is self-motivated and eager to learn and explore.Required Qualifications-Bachelor's Degree-Demonstrated research skills, especially the use of archives, archival materials, digital media, or digital collections-Experience working in an academic archives, library, or museum environment-Experience with building digital collections or exhibits in platforms such as Omeka-Demonstrated experience enhancing accessibility of online materials, such as websites or digital humanities projects-Experience using Microsoft Office and Google Suite-Strong written, interpersonal, and teamwork communication skillsPreferred Qualifications-Graduate degree in a relevant field or current enrollment in a graduate program-Experience working with administrative, technical, structural, and descriptive metadata standards such as PREMIS, DACS, EAD, METS, Wikidata, and Dublin Core-Experience working with or handling intellectual property issues-Experience with quality control/assurance-Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities-Detail-oriented and ability to be flexible and work independentlyPay Band4Appointment TypeRegularSalary Information$20.03/hourReview Date03/06/2024Additional InformationWork Schedule: 20-30 hours per week; between the hours of M-F 8:00am-5:00pmPosition is expected to last 9-12 months, with an extension possible.Must be able to work during school breaks and summerMust be able to safely lift and handle boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.About Virginia TechThe University Libraries at Virginia Tech is committed to building a culturally diverse community and strongly encourages applications from women and minorities.
