Gear Development / Quality Technician Job Description Summary
#TeamAAM is looking for a Gear Development / Quality Technician to join our team in Detroit, Michigan!


This individual will manufacture and develop prototype and small batch run gears for current and future AAM programs and perform quality control functions. They will be responsible for the development, processing, and quality evaluation of bevel and cylindrical gears for various automotive and commercial applications to meet customer requirements in a fast-paced prototype lab environment.

Job Description Works closely with the design and application group to specify gear development requirements, quality levels, performance levels, and program scheduling. Assists in evaluating and recommending new equipment, processes, and software. Participates in product design/development review meetings. Assists production facilities with troubleshooting manufacturing issues. Assists with benchmarking and performing competitive gear analysis requests. Participates and assists with PPAP's and new product launches at domestic and international facilities. Maintains best in class safe, clean, and well-organized work environment. All other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Education High School Diploma or GED. Thorough understanding of typical metal part processing: tooling, machines, machine set-ups, operation, and prints. Experience with quality systems and print specification interpretation. Experience using CMMs and other inspection equipment. Proficient in operating Gear Development Center inspection equipment, evaluation of parts on the equipment, and determining quality conformance to print requirements, as well as operating machines to produce parts for various prototype programs. Proficient in Microsoft Office or similar software. Willingness and ability to travel locally and internationally as the need arises. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with gear evaluations, gear development, and gear processing equipment preferred.
