Why you'll love this position: The roadside design specialist serves as the department's roadside design expert, focusing on providing safe vehicle recovery when vehicles leave the roadway and reducing crash severity. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.
What you'll do: Serves as the department's roadside design expert and provides direction and training to districts, divisions, and consultants regarding roadside design guidance and safety Serves as a technical resource for department design, construction, and maintenance personnel, as well as department project managers. Evaluates roadside safety products and implements roadside safety practices and features. Monitors progress and performs quality assurance of project activities and roadway design plans for compliance with department policies and procedures, federal regulations and department direction. Develops, maintains, and communicates roadside hardware policy, approval process, and implementation of crashworthy devices on state right of way. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum. Successful completion of the Engineer-in-Training exam Five years of experience in highway or transportation engineering. Special Working Conditions: Job requires occasional, statewide or out-of-state, overnight travel. Remote work from another MoDOT facility and/or hybrid telework option may be considered. Full-time telework is not available.
