The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for new product, existing product support and tooling development. Very strong written and communication skills are a must. This person must work well both independently and as a team. The key to success for the engineer in this position is to have a good imagination, combined with strong 3D modeling skills. Being able to rapidly design a model from concept will be of paramount importance.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
3D model and develop new products and assemblies, existing product support and tooling based on customer needs. Create in-depth drawings from models as needed for all areas in the manufacturing process. Produce prototypes for proof of concept. Inspect, assemble and test prototypes and pre-production parts during the pre-production process to ensure functionality. Support designs with testing, analysis and calculations as needed. Hands on position, with specific long-term tasks that are scheduled. There will also be unscheduled or newly scheduled tasks to complete. Create, maintain and support of top-level assemblies throughout the design, documentation and release to manufacturing process. Work with engineering team on larger projects to complete projects according to deadlines. Qualifications and Education Requirements BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent work experience. Good, demonstrated work experience and accomplishments are valued highly. 5+ years of mechanical design experience, including 5+ years of hands-on 3D modeling. Strong computer skills and knowledge of 3D modeling software. Strong demonstrated skills in new product design and development. This includes part and assembly modeling, detail drawing, and tooling design for assembly and manufacturing. Strong knowledge of materials, material properties and metals finishes. Strong written, verbal and communication skills. Organization and the ability to keep focused on multiple tasks at once. Detailed oriented and good at keeping notes.
