Position Highlights The School of Government and Public Policy (SGPP) at the University of Arizona invites applications for a Data Architect III. The data architect will work closely with the Arizona Voter Project Director and academic collaborators to provide technical support for the Arizona Voter Project. This position requires technical competency, dedication to a team approach, personal accountability, accuracy, timeliness, and excellent communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of backend technical systems for the voter project, including significant work in Google BigQuery and various analytic platforms (e.g, Tableau, Looker, Power BI) and programming languages, primary Python, R, HTML, and Javascript. Lead technical efforts on the public website for the voter project, by developing and maintaining the backend ETL pipeline. Organize, track, and report analytics from the various AVP data assets. And analyzing this information to maximize public impact. Optimize, secure, and bolster the AVP data pipeline. Collaborate with the Executive Director, Dr. Christopher Weber, to develop mid and long-term strategies for the voter project. As the AVP develops, manage operations of the voter project, including improving any policy or security practice that creates a more stable and secure environment for the project. Coordinate with the AVP Project Director to deliver various data assets available on the AVP website. Support the financial sustainability of the project, most notably through grant applications and funding activities. Communicate with Business Analysts and stakeholders from across the university to ensure the mission of the voter project is well managed and continuously improving. The project relies on high level statistical analysis. The candidate will support the analytic efforts of the project, through assistance with data modeling, geospatial analysis and machine learning techniques. The project relies on effective reporting of statistical analysis. The candidate will assist in building tools and writing reports from these statistical analyses. The candidate will also develop and maintain the front-end web architecture. A beta version is here: voterproject.arizona.edu. We want to expand on this significantly while using more advanced front-end techniques to create a better user experience and ensure the scalability of the project. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Familiarity with principles and theories of political sciences and voter behavior Familiarity with R, Python, SQL, HTML, ArcGIS, and Drupal Familiarity with web programming. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals & organizations with a broad range of viewpoints and backgrounds. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required. Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Preferred Qualifications PhD in Political Science Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, Google's Looker Studio, D3.js, and/or Shiny. FLSA Exempt
