Job Summary: Our client is seeking a Representative Payee to manage benefit payments for beneficiaries incapable of handling their Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments. This role involves providing eviction prevention and financial assistance to individuals with disabilities through rent/bill payment, budgeting, financial assessment, credit repair, and money management training.
Responsibilities: Apply for payee status for individuals electing MAP as their payee Receive entitlement funds on behalf of participants Request and disperse funds for SSA-eligible activities as regulated by SSA Provide regular and periodic reports on individual accounts as requested by SSA or participants Communicate changes in beneficiary circumstances affecting eligibility for benefits to SSA Assist participants in setting financial goals, overcoming barriers, and strategizing Aid participants in meeting current needs such as housing, food, medical expenses, etc. Maintain open communication with beneficiaries, involving them in financial decisions when possible Provide concrete budgeting and financial planning assistance Keep participant files updated regarding income and disbursement of funds Safeguard participants' funds from fraud, scams, or financial exploitation Ensure compliance with all SSA and MAP Financial policies and procedures Establish relationships with relevant entities such as utility companies, hospitals, banks, etc., to prevent eviction/shut-offs Perform data entry of daily and recurring checks Adhere to the values, principles, and standards of the NASW Code of Ethics Maintain regular and routine attendance as scheduled Perform any other duties as assigned Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent (required)1-2 years of experience managing finances, including budgeting, bill payment, record-keeping, and financial planning (required)1-2 years of experience working with vulnerable populations, such as individuals with disabilities, older adults, or individuals experiencing financial hardship Familiarity with Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and other government benefits programs Awareness of cultural diversity and ability to work with individuals from different backgrounds Knowledge of legal and regulatory framework governing representative payee responsibilities Proficiency in budgeting, record-keeping, financial planning, and bill payment Understanding of maintaining accurate and confidential client records Awareness of trauma-informed care principles and professional boundaries Valid Michigan Driver's License
