­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Announcement # 2024-155 Custodian II (Daytime) Facility Management Department of Administration Hourly Wage: $15.74/Regular/Full-Time Custodian II is responsible for maintaining and protecting all Yakama Nation Facilities under the responsibility of Yakama Nation Facility Management. The external and internal appearance of a building is reflected in the occupants, it is important for the Custodian II to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning, and tidying the premises, as well as prevent vandalism. As a Custodian II applicant will be experienced in a custodial role focused on building upkeep, have great physical endurance to cover a large space, and a keen eye for detail and diligence are also imperative.
Responsible for performing assigned custodial services for the Yakama Nation to assure the sanitation and cleanliness of the building, specifically all restrooms, doorways, and windows throughout the facility. Perform minor maintenance (i.e., carpentry, painting, and plumbing) duties as required to repair and/or modify facilities. Will operate and use a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, janitorial equipment, and ground maintenance equipment as needed to complete duties. Work is primarily of a general, manual nature, the duties are routine and performed regularly.
Examples of Work Performed: As requested, may assist in training new employees explaining supply location, areas to clean, how and what cleaners are necessary, etc.
Perform maintenance and minor repair (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks, etc.).
Report major damages to Operations Supervisor.
Ensures spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture, and dusting surfaces.
Vacuum carpets as well as sweep and mop floors and stairways.
Washes all entrance doorways, clean glass, both inside and out at the beginning of shifts. Weather permitting cleans all outside windows, dusts, clean windowsills, and entrance doorways daily.
Wash and sanitize each restroom to ensure each restroom is properly disinfected and maintained daily, and restock disposables (e.g., soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.); weekly duties include use of strong disinfectants and disinfecting restroom drains, clean and disinfect toilets, wash bowls and urinals. Clean mirrors, fixtures, restroom stalls, and doorways.
Monday through Thursday use mild disinfectants, Friday clean all bowls with a stronger cleaner; bi-weekly mixes and uses special drain cleaners (degreasers).
Wash all water fountains and elevator doors.
Clean walls as needed and all molding throughout building with wet mop.
Clean kitchen in lounge area; clean counter tops, sinks, outside of refrigerator and stove daily, once a week clean the stove and refrigerator thoroughly.
When building is used after hours, staff must clean up at end of meetings.
In the absence of one team member, other shift members, to assure primary duties are completed will do work.
Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting up the alarm.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of standard materials, tools, and equipment to perform minor maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of cleaning practices and procedures; proper use of equipment and chemicals and proper mixing instructions.
Knowledge in safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
Skill in the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
Skill with attention to detail and conscientiousness.
Ability to coordinate work with teammates to keep on schedule.
Ability to work independently to work with co-workers in a cooperative and helpful manner to support other members of custodial team in performance of duties.
Ability to understand oral and written instructions and to carry out those instructions.
Ability to be self-motivated and have the physical condition and strength to sufficiently perform the work.
Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or GED and any work experience that would demonstrate the ability to perform the work.
At least one to three years work experience that would demonstrate the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the work.
Must be physically capable of performing strenuous work activities for both indoor and outdoor, in all types of weather conditions year-round.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
