ABOUT THE POSITION This position is responsible for daily maintenance and custodial duties for FareStart's main location – 700 Virginia St. This position is responsible for maintaining facility equipment including but not limited to HVAC systems and kitchen equipment, inspecting facility equipment to ensure safe and proper operations, and overseeing the pest elimination program. This position is expected to spend sixty percent (60%) of time on janitorial duties and forty percent (40%) on maintenance duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Perform regular basic maintenance and repairs including plumbing repair, routine electrical repair, changing of light bulbs and tubes, changing of filters, kitchen equipment repair, repairing damaged furniture and fixtures, painting or touch-up marked or damaged surfaces, etc. Responsible for overall appearance of the building, including sidewalks, street-level exterior glass, and removal of graffiti and painting. Perform daily janitorial tasks (e.g., cleaning floors (vacuuming and mopping); emptying trash, recycle, and compost bins; cleaning surfaces, dusting, stocking supplies, etc.) for restrooms, locker rooms, office spaces, conference rooms, utility spaces, restaurant spaces, and other common areas. Perform weekly, monthly, and annual janitorial tasks, (e.g., deep cleaning of restaurant floors). Perform cleaning in limited areas (e.g., hallways and high ceilings) of commercial kitchens as directed. Perform tasks assigned through the facilities ticketing system. Perform administrative duties such as inventory management, email communications, and facilities ticket system responses. Maintain custodial inventory and maintenance supplies. Oversee facility pest control treatments in collaboration with the Facilities Manager. Assist with testing and maintenance for building monitoring systems, e.g., lighting, HVAC, fire, and security. Assist with moving and arranging office furniture and kitchen equipment, as needed. Communicate with facilities vendors as necessary in collaboration with the Facilities Manager. High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) or more years of related custodial and maintenance experience. Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with manual and electrical tools, electricity, plumbing, carpentry, painting, HVAC systems, and other building management and facilities monitoring systems. Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams. Ability to work with customized databases and technology and to conduct internet research. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and requests and meet deadlines in a professional manner. Ability to be flexible and adaptable and change plans as needed. Ability to listen patiently and attentively, ability to express self clearly and effectively, and the ability to adapt communication based on audience and purpose with inclusivity. Ability to work independently as well as within diverse teams and environments, while treating everyone with respect. Ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with audiences of different backgrounds and experiences. Ability to employ best practices associated with the position, while displaying an on-going commitment to learning and self-improvement. Ability to work a non-standard/flexible schedule, which may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. Preferred Qualifications & Skills Custodial and/or maintenance experience in a restaurant or food service facility.  Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position is exposed to a typical office, facilities access (roof, mechanical rooms, etc.) and restaurant kitchen environments, including hot cooking elements and sharp objects. This position is exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. This position is occasionally required to climb or balance; use ladders; and squat, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
