We are seeking a qualified Controller who will partner with the CFO in providing financial advice to senior leadership related to Society activities to include strategic investments. The Controller will co-lead the optimization of our financial and accounting suite of products to enhance our financial reporting to position the organization for growth. This role is responsible for the oversight of accounting and financial operations of a $30M annual budget including budgeting, financial reporting, accounting, ensuring compliance with audits, financial guidelines, and regulations.
What you'll bring to the job: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and minimum 5 years' experience managing accounting and financial operations.
Experience in not-for-profit organizations, preferably a membership organization in science and/or healthcare.
Strong organizational skills with an ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate metrics, research, and trends into strategy.
Demonstrated collaborative problem-solving skills and the ability to work with internal cross-functional teams and external members and stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience as a people manager.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to think conceptually and strategically while maintaining a results-driven approach.
Strong technical acumen and the ability to learn and apply new technologies.
Experience with Sage-Intacct preferred and must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

What you'll own: Ensure the Society's financial statements and accounting operations are compliant with GAAP, relevant tax, and other statutory codes.
Oversee all accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger processing in accounting system and association management system, where applicable; the preparation of daily cash deposits, recording and tracking of lockbox receipts and receivables, monthly bank reconciliation, billing of accounts receivable, etc.
Oversee preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.  Analyze general ledger accounts and prepare monthly and year end reconciliation.  Direct the preparation of audit work papers and manage annual financial audit engagement to successful, timely conclusion.
Direct and prepare all annual, quarterly, and monthly financial reporting; conduct financial analysis activities for owned subsidiary entities supported by the organization.
Establish, disseminate, and maintain sound internal controls for processing, recording and approval of financial data.
Prepare and consolidate cost center data for annual budget and periodic projections. Partner with budget managers to develop reasonable budget and projection expectations.
Assist CFO in planning Finance & Audit Committee meeting agendas and compile and distribute necessary documents to conduct meeting.  Attend Finance & Audit Committee meetings and prepare minutes.  Prepare and make presentations as needed.
Assist CFO in bank reporting and debt covenant ratio calculations.
Manage day-to-day Finance Department activities.  Evaluate department workload, assignment of duties and delegate projects.
Manage audit of vendor invoices, review cost allocations to appropriate accounts.
Develop and maintain management reports, analysis, Statemen of Activities (SOA), and other ad hoc reports for use by management.
Monitor cash flow information to ensure proper management of current balances in cash accounts.
Assist with arranging and managing vendor services including: banking, treasury, credit card processing, and other third-party vendor relationships.  Evaluate vendor value and recommend changes to CFO as necessary.
Maintain and serve as administrator of the Sage-Intacct, Prophix, and online expense reporting and travel booking system.
Supervise reconciliation of subsidiary intercompany transactions.
Collaborate with Strategic Partnerships, Education, and other pertinent staff to ensure proper and timely grant reconciliations against budgets, general ledger and final bills.
Assist with financial responsibilities of payroll processing and management, including budgeting and projection of Society's annual payroll.
Assist CFO with managing Finance Department budget.
Serve as backup for payroll operations, as necessary.
Responsible for implementing efficiencies and utilizing technology-based solutions to enhance controls and financial reporting.
Other duties as assigned.
Provide accounting guidance, direction, development, and supervision to accounting positions, including Accounting Manager, Staff Accountant-Accounts Receivable, and Accounting Specialist, Accounts Payable Specialist.

Work Location:This position is located in Washington, DC and walking distance to Metro and major bus lines.  The Endocrine Society offers a flexible, hybrid work environment. Employees are expected to work from the office at least 2 days per week to foster our collaborative culture and support cross-functional interaction.
