Job Description A highly respected commercial construction and development company is prepared to add an experienced individual to oversee the accounting and bookkeeping department. Summary:
The Controller reports directly to the Director of Finance and manages and supports the accounting team in providing full cycle accounting, bookkeeping, reporting and analysis for development, ownership and operating entities.
Responsibilities could include:
Oversee and support construction accountants activities. Construction accountants enter and code job cost invoices, and generate of periodic project cost reports. They also process lien waivers, vendor and subcontractor pay requests, remit payments and reconcile the project accounting system to the general ledger monthly.
Oversee accounts payable activities which includes reviewing corporate and pre acquisition invoices for proper approvals, coding invoices, remitting invoices for payment and processing checks requests, as needed
Oversee general accounting activities which include acquisition and disposition entry review, reconciling intercompany accounts, paying property taxes and utility bills, collecting rent from properties in operations and requests CAM/tax reimbursement from tenants, as needed.
Ensure that bank account and loan accounts are being reconciled by accounting team monthly and provide support as, needed
Perform cash management between bank accounts, as needed
Journal entities, as needed, especially deemed contributions/distributions through ownership structures
Develop and maintain a filing system for all relevant documents
Prepare monthly/quarterly financial statements for assets in operations and investment level and fund level financial statements
Prepare contribution and distribution calculations and notices to investors, as needed
Review positive pay exceptions
Assistance with payroll processing as needed
Maintain banking, vendor and internal customer relations
Monitor Federal and State Tax returns in conjunction with inhouse CPAs
Audit coordination, as needed
Assist with the annual 1099 preparation process
Special projects, as requested
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, required
Must have 7+ years of experience in accounting and financial reporting
Experience with GL, accounts payable and accounts receivable activities required
Excellent communication, organizational, presentation and problem solving skills required
Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications required
Experience with job costing and construction activities, desired
Experience in audit, desired
Knowledge of Yardi Voyager General Ledger, Project Costing, and Payables, desired
