UW Facilities manages the University's buildings, infrastructure, and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management, Real Estate, Sustainability, and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. The Operations group includes Project Delivery, Maintenance & Construction, Transportation Services and Safety. Lastly, there is the Campus Energy, Utilities & Operations group. Supporting these groups are the Business Intelligence & Information Technology group and the Finance & Administration group.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Control Technician Lead, Lockshop to provide leadership, plan, schedule, and direct the work of journey level Access Control Technicians and Locksmiths; perform skilled work in the operation, inspection, testing, servicing and maintenance of mechanical key systems, offline keypad locks, online access control systems and their integrations with other building systems such as ADA openings, Burglar systems, Fire Alarm systems and HVAC systems.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

* Perform all duties of a journey level Access Control Technician.* Assign and direct Access Control Technicians and Locksmiths in the performance of their assigned tasks, inspect work for quality and completeness and ensure clients are advised of work schedules and job status.* Develop and maintain high security Master Key systems.* Install and maintain standalone electronic lock systems and databases.* Develop preliminary cost estimates for installations and repairs.* Perform alteration, repair, and maintenance of CAAMS access control equipment and devices and integrations with other building systems such as ADA openings, Burglar systems, Fire Alarm systems and HVAC systems.* Work as a team partner with the Building Access Group staff in a professional manner to resolve all lock maintenance and Master Key issues and associated equipment.* Respond to emergency situations such as lockouts, security issues to prevent loss of property, damage to research activities, and disruption to life-safety systems.* Develop safety work plans, methods, procedures, and standard operating practices to ensure the safety of all assigned personnel and efficient use of resources.* Attend contractor meetings for the purpose of developing building master key structures and access control strategies, design review to ensure adherence to campus design and installation standards.* Coordinate Building Access Group activities with campus partners such department administrators, building coordinators and other departments within Facilities Services effectively using email, phone, and other productivity software tools such as ZOOM, and TEAMS.* Coordinate work with other trades to troubleshoot and repair lock failures relating to all aspects of the building access systems.* Provide leadership and support for staff to ensure all work is performed in a safe productive manner including specific requirements for regulated materials.* Maintain a preventive maintenance program on equipment, components, and systems.* Maintain and update master key records daily including key inventory systems.* Review and assign work requests, and initiate, retrieve, and close work orders.* Field phone calls and e-mails to answer requests, questions, etc., of clients, and others.* Monitor equipment and supply needs, coordinate with supervisor, and requisition parts and materials to ensure that employees have items required to perform all job assignments including service and repair of locks, door hardware, scheduled construction projects and recommend purchase of equipment and supplies for shop operation.* Work with UW Facilities Stores to determine parts inventory.* Interact with clients, coworkers, management, UW staff and students in a courteous and professional manner, with attention to customer service.* Know and ensure that assigned personnel comply with occupational health and safety regulations that apply to work actions and conduct on the job, including the use of personal protective equipment whenever required, report safety infractions to the supervisor.* Coordinate with Engineering Services, Project Delivery Group, contractors, Facilities Trades, building occupants, and other clients to schedule required work.* Demonstrate a positive, optimistic, success-oriented attitude.* Demonstrate professional work ethics.* Follow and enforce adherence to all University and Facilities Services policies and procedures.* Attend all required meetings and training.* Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements include:

* One year of full-time experience as a journey control technician, or equivalent trade skill.* Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

* Five or more years of experience as a locksmith installing all types of door hardware and access control equipment.* Completion of an approved vocational or trade school course as a control technician and two years of field experience as a Locksmith, Access Control Technician, or equivalent trade skill.* Experience working with High Security Medeco Master Key systems.* Experience setting up and deploying offline electronic lock systems such as Alarm Lock and Schlage AD series locks.* A working understanding of building egress and safety codes.* Must possess excellent customer service, written and oral communication skills.* Must be able to communicate appropriately with clients, staff and students while presenting a professional image.* Experience working with Washington State safety rules and regulations.* Experience in applicable desktop computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and computerized Work Management systems.

Conditions of Employment:

* Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's license* Must be able to work in a diverse workforce.* Must be able to drive service vehicles to transport tools and materials to job sites.* Must be able to communicate effectively with staff on portable hand-held radios.* Must be a strong team leader and be able to work both independently and as a team member.* Must be able to follow all Washington State safety rules and regulations.* Must always maintain a professional appearance.* Possess excellent skills in building a working crew harmony.* This position requires the wearing of personal protective equipment appropriate to the job task.* Must participate in medical screening/monitoring (such as TB screening and proof of measles inoculation) required for work assignments in locations, including but not limited to, nonhuman primate areas, the Animal Research and Care Facility, and the University of Washington Medical Center.* This position is subject to callback outside normal working hours to respond to emergencies, and occasionally scheduled overtime.* Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.* Regular and predictable attendance is required.
