Content Development Specialist
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE : Do you have an aptitude for independently managing projects, collaborating remotely with team members and writing clear, compelling content? Build your career by joining a highly creative and growing team of content managers, editors and writers who create and maintain sales support materials, from proposal content to high-end, fully designed marketing collateral and multi-media sales presentations.
ARE YOU AN IDEAL CANDIDATE ?We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who thrive in a collaborative environment, who are driven to deliver great work, are customer-oriented and are naturally empathetic.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES MAY INCLUDE + Develop a working knowledge of products/services
+ Help maintain and update knowledge management systems
+ Write, edit and review content for accuracy, style and consistency
+ Manage projects and communicate with appropriate parties
QUALIFICATIONS Hard skills + Composition – you need an understanding of what makes written content understandable and effectively communicates ideas. You will need an interest in, and some experience with editing/writing content.
+ Independence – while other team members are available for support as needed, you will need to be comfortable working individually in a remote environment: planning your time and prioritizing your tasks, completing work independently and soliciting/developing new projects.
+ Organization – we are looking for a person who enjoys the building blocks of project management: determining project scope, communicating with stakeholders, foreseeing challenges, breaking down the steps of a project and assessing the end result.
+ Grammar – we are the final eyes on many/most projects for our larger team. You need a good understanding of grammar and an eye for detail when it comes to proofreading.
+ Communication – we interact with diverse stakeholders on a variety of projects. We are looking for a team member who is comfortable setting up and participating in meetings with various resources – and most importantly, speaking up when you do not fully understand a given topic.
+ Computer skills – Familiarity with organization, word processing and communications tools. We also use a customer relationship management tool (Microsoft Dynamics), a time tracking tool (Smartsheet) and content management system (RFPio/Responsive) – experience is a plus but not required.
Soft skills + Critical thinking skills – recognizing connections and making conclusions using information from various sources; striving to understand multiple perspectives; solving problems by identifying the issues and the source; adopting a "beginner mindset" to explore the boundaries of a project; understanding what is relevant to a project outcome, and what may not be; and recognizing bias (including your own). For example: You are asked to write a two-page overview for a new product. Since you are unfamiliar with the product, you work up a list of questions to learn more and set up a meeting with the product manager. You also review materials for similar products, both on the company and competitor websites as well relevant industry publications. Throughout the process you solicit input from your team to both improve your understanding of the project and ensure that your team benefits from what you learn.
+ An entrepreneurial approach – the urge to seek out, propose, guide and complete projects. For example : You join a meeting with some of the proposal writers where they express frustration with the search function in the database – you bring the issue to the content team's attention, research a solution and propose additional training or system modifications.
+ A curious mind – the drive to know and understand both what Sedgwick does and how that impacts our clients and the industry. For example : New legislation recently expanded job protection for pregnant workers. You work with internal experts and the team to understand and identify necessary edits for related library content/collateral.
+ Thriving on a virtual team – having the desire and energy to help sustain a team vibe even though we are not face to face. For example : You comfortable working independently, organizing your tasks and soliciting new projects. You are also proactive with regular interaction on video calls and IM and fearless in asking for input and direction. You proactively offer support for projects and peers.
+ Team-focused structure – understanding that we are a small, nonhierarchical team, i.e., we all work on similar projects regardless of title and tenure. For example : You accept and encourage diverse approaches and perspectives; you invest in the success of your peers; you are comfortable both leading a project and taking a supportive role; you work every day to maintain a culture of trust.
? TAKING CARE OF YOU + A team of seasoned professionals who will support you in developing or improving your writing/editing abilities, as well as learning content and project management, and marketing, communication and leadership skills
+ An equal stake in the direction and success of the team – we all participate in developing our team roadmap and goals, and we encourage team members to pursue projects that energize and satisfy them
+ Support for work/life balance
+ Fully remote work environment with equipment and technology support provided
+ A stable work environment with full benefits
+ The opportunity to advance a career either within our team or across Sedgwick's different services and teams
+ Support for continuing education related to job responsibilities
Work environment requirements for entry-level opportunities include -
Physical: Computer keyboarding
Auditory/visual: Hearing, vision and talking
Mental: Clear and conceptual thinking ability; excellent judgement and discretion; ability to meet deadlines
NEXT STEPS If your application is selected to advance to the next round, you will receive an e-mail notification with instructions and a link to complete a recorded video interview. Upon completion and submission of the video interview, a recruiter will be in touch.
