Full job description The River City Foundation (RCF) is dedicated to expanding outdoor recreation opportunities in St. Louis and the Great Middle West. We believe everyone should have access to meaningful outdoor experiences and that outdoor recreation can lead to healthier, more culturally vibrant communities and a shared love for nature.
RCF envisions a St. Louis region that celebrates and structurally supports a robust outdoor recreation community and culture. The Foundation works to connect the community to its outdoor assets through our programs: River City Outdoors, Big Muddy Adventures, and Terrain Media.
· River City Outdoors – is dedicated to increasing equitable access to the outdoors.
· Big Muddy Adventures – connects people with the region's waterways, trails, and public lands through recreation and education.
· Terrain Media – delivers entertaining, educational, and informative content focused on active outdoor living through its free print publication, online content, and community events.
River City Outdoors (RCO) is growing a network of intersectional partners across the Greater St. Louis region that collectively aim to address the barriers that exist to safe and equitable outdoor access in the St. Louis region. Together, we are working to co-create a vibrant and equitable outdoor culture for all. Some of the ways we do this include:
Bridging the information gaps about outdoor recreation opportunities in the region; Connecting the community to our region's natural and recreational assets; and Supporting outdoor organizations, businesses and programs in and around the St. Louis region, especially those led by BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and communities with disabilities. POSITION SUMMARY The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for the delivery of community engagement events that provide high-quality, culturally relevant, outdoor activities for St. Louis youth, families and community-based organizations. Events are aligned with the River City Foundation's mission of ensuring everyone in St. Louis has lasting access to safe, welcoming outdoor experiences. The Community Engagement Specialist will be a trusted resource for our partner organizations; providing them with event support, educational trainings, and coordination of logistics for program events. The Community Engagement Specialist, under the supervision of the Director of Community Engagement, is responsible for the promotion and management of the RCO Gear Lending Library. Highlights of this position include the following:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and/or support the delivery of culturally responsive activities for seasonal programs to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for focus audiences, including youth and marginalized populations Collaborate with local and regional partners and the Director of Community Engagement to coordinate program itinerary logistics such as transportation, adventure and educational activities, etc. Promote and facilitate the RCO Gear Lending Library (GLL) to include handling all rental communications, processing or gear orders, gear inventory, etc. Work with the Digital Media Specialist and Foundation Communications team to create culturally relevant social media content to post on all RCO social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook Collect and organize program paperwork (e.g. participant waivers, medical information, etc.) and equipment (e.g. first-aid kits, tents, camping supplies, etc.) Collect and track impact data for all engagement opportunities Work with Director of Community Engagement to develop new programming options by researching, scouting locations (virtually and physically), and vetting potential partners Communicate with community groups, schools and other custom partners through participating in Zoom meetings Assist with running informational sessions and pre-program presentations Run any necessary pre-program trainings with participants and post-program debrief sessions with the Directory of Community Engagement Support partner organization while in the field by coordinating logistics or providing other support as needed Attend and represent RCF at relevant community events through staffing our booth and interacting with event attendees in a professional and positive manner, and maintain the cleanliness and attractiveness of the booth area Support equity and inclusion goals, including highlighting the work of people of color, LGBTQIA+ and other historically marginalized communities in the RCO community partner network. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS (EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE) Experience working with/for outdoor recreation departments, community organizations, summer camps and/or schools Bachelor's Degree in environmental education or camping/outdoor recreation preferred. Other combinations of education and experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered. 1-3 years of experience in outdoor programming, outdoor program facilitation, people management, community relations, or other relevant skills are preferred. Prior experience in customer service, retail, office support or other relevant area is preferred. Licensing and Certifications · Wilderness First Aid, CPR certification or ability to earn the certification training

Technical computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Suite, customer relationship management systems, and social networking. Physical Demands: Must be able to work both in an office setting, and independently, and capable of lifting 25 pounds. Must have reliable transportation. Travel Approximately 40% of your time will be spent in the field, mostly around the St. Louis region. BENEFITS · Great company culture!
