Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities: Dispatch, computer entry, and monitor alarm and warning systems. Responsibilities include performing the duties of a 911 operator, to include dispatching police officers, fire department, ambulances, and student patrol personnel; police communications record keeping; university information; and other related activities. Computer aided dispatch entry, alarm monitoring and warning system activation.
Minimum Education Requirements: High school graduate or equivalent. Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements: Must have two years of previous work experience in the emergency operations/telecommunication field, customer service, or a position requiring similar duties and responsibilities to include information systems and computer technology. Related college education may be exchanged for a portion of the experience requirement. Must successfully complete Department of Criminal Justice training for Telecommunicator Certification. Must be at least twenty-one years of age. Will be required to successfully complete a five week course in Richmond, Kentucky, if not state certified in telecommunications. The department will pay all training expenses. Must undergo background investigation and take and pass a psychological suitability screening, polygraph examination, and drug screening. Must be free of a criminal record. Any pending criminal court action must be disclosed. Must be able to meet all standards to be certified in telecommunications in the state of Kentucky. Must have a neat personal appearance and be able to function in a high stress environment. Alertness, excellent memory for oral and written directions and details, and ability to make decisions and operate effectively under pressure are required. Must have computer skills with knowledge of software packages such as Microsoft Word and Access. Must demonstrate ability to learn university rules and regulations; university layout (buildings, farms, streets, etc.); university personnel; police communication equipment and software; alarm systems; recording systems; and paging system. Hourly Rate: $14.52 (Additional pay dependent upon qualifications)
Minimum Salary: $14.52
Work Hours: Forty hours per week minimum. Will be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays. Will be required to fill vacancies during vacations, training, illness, etc., possibly with short notice and on any shift. Must respond to unscheduled event or critical incident.
