Position Summary The Department of Psychiatry seeks a Communications Coordinator to provide administrative support for Prevent 2 Protect: The Adolescent Targeted Violence Prevent Program. This is a 5-year, $15M community-based, multi-disciplinary service initiative funded by the Michigan Department of Education to avert targeted violence in the middle and high school settings. The communication coordinator will work closely with and at the direction of the project leadership. This position will work closely with the regional teams, psychiatry department's business office, office of sponsored programs and partners. The primary of responsibilities of this position include:
Provides overall administrative support of the project, including, but not limited to, scheduling meetings, working with project leadership to respond to informational, interview, and other speaking requests, processing travel requests, arranging travel, and processing reimbursements, and purchasing and managing supplies and equipment.  Interacts with university departments and community partners in order to engage and promote unit programs, provide clarification, resolve concerns, explain requirements, processes, and/or explain goals of unit programs. Composes, reviews, edits, produces, and duplicates audio, visual, video, and/or printed program promotional materials for distribution to target audiences. Reviews and/or edits layouts, drafts, and information in order to check for content, readability, and style. Monitors social media and engages with external audiences in electronic forums. Assists with web page design, maintenance, and content management. Daily management of project website and social media outlets including creation of content at the direction of program leadership Monitors various publications and electronic sources of news and commentary for potential relevance to unit activities. Schedules and arranges meetings and special events. Other duties as assigned The MSU Department of Psychiatry is committed to advancing the common good through efforts related to innovative research and community outreach both locally and nationally. Prevent 2 Protect: The Adolescent Targeted Violence Prevention Project is a community outreach endeavor aimed at providing intensive individualized supports to students, schools, and communities throughout the state of Michigan with a goal of keeping our children safe in our schools and communities.
While this position is an on-campus position, there may be opportunities to work remote on occasion.  This is dictated by the needs of the clients and communities served by the program.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications, Telecommunications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in internal communications; news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation software; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational skills, ability to work with diverse groups, ability to work independently.
