If you have an affinity with high school students and would like to join a team of professionals that directly impact the lives of low-income and underrepresented students, we have an open College Access Coach position at WSU Vancouver. Summary of Duties
Washington State University (WSU) Vancouver's Talent Search programs are funded with federal TRiO grants by the Department of Education. The program's purpose is to increase the number of low-income and underrepresented students who graduate from high school and successfully complete post-secondary education. The College Access Coach has the responsibility to increase Talent Search students' academic performance through direct tutoring, advising, and developing students' positive academic behaviors and non-cognitive skills. Responsibilities include mentoring students to increase college and career readiness, coaching students regarding financial literacy, financial aid, and the college application process, and supervising college students who will work part-time directly with the high school students as academic tutors. This position will schedule, arrange, and provide supervision of field trips to college campuses, working as a team with other Talent Search staff.
With the assistance of classroom teachers, counselors, and school administrators, the College Access Coach will reach out to students, and use instructional tools and methodologies that are consistent with Vancouver School District and Dept. of Education interventions to achieve grant outcomes. The College Access Coach will monitor, collect, analyze, and document student data for assessment and reporting requirements. This position is housed out of WSU Vancouver and will work within Hudson's Bay and Fort Vancouver high schools, providing direct support for Vancouver School District students. An important component of this position is the knowledge of the community resources in target schools for participants and parents/families geared to serve the needs of low income and potential first-generation college students. The College Access Coach reports to the Campus Director of Talent Search programs at WSU Vancouver. Required Qualifications
Positions require a bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience directly related to student services. A master's degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Proficiency in the use of computers and MS Office software programs.
Willingness and ability to travel locally and work a flexible schedule, including frequent nights and weekends. Preferred Qualifications Two (2) years of experience providing instruction or direct outreach services to students and/or working with parents in an individual or group setting.
Demonstrated knowledge of school programs, student success, the school community and/or parental involvement in community and/or school setting.
Familiarity with organization and operation of school/district administration and university/community college systems.
Demonstrated success providing leadership and supervising others.
Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people, including peers, university and school administrators, faculty, staff, students and parents, and the public.
Experience managing, tracking, and reporting program data.
Experience in student academic support programs. Bi-lingual in Spanish, Russian, Chinese, etc.

The position will be primarily in person at the designated target school and on campus at WSUV. After 6 months remote work may also be available during breaks when students are not present.



Temporary End Date:


This is a temporary position expected to end on September 30, 2026. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.



Monthly Salary:


Minimum: $4,050 ($48,600/year); Midpoint: $4,941 ($59,292/year); Maximum: $5,832 ($69,984/year), Grade 3, Zone 3. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position and the availability of approved grant funding. Successful candidates typically begin up to the mid-point of the salary range.
