Responsibilities
• Perform analysis on medical records and assign appropriate ICD-CM and ICD-PCS codes• Assign and correct discharge disposition status based on clinical documentation• Assign principal diagnosis, comorbidities, complications, and procedure codes• Utilize the 3M Encoder software to assign the most accurate DRG• Perform retrospective queries when documentation is inconsistent• Assist in training new personnel
Requirements
• Level of knowledge equivalent to an Associate or bachelor's degree in Health Information Management• Certification(s) as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P), or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) required• Proficient in utilizing multiple payer-specific DRG groupers• Thorough knowledge of DRG, ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, and CPT coding systems• Thorough knowledge of third-party payer requirements and federal/state guidelines and regulations• Excellent customer service skills• Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail• Ability to work independently• Excellent oral and written communication skills• Ability to problem solve and prioritize workload• Ability to handle pressure and deal with individuals tactfully
