This position is under the supervision of the Cascade Life Alliance (CLA) Family Services Manager and is in support of the mission and goals of CLA. The Donation and Family Advocate Resource (DFA-R) utilizes in-depth healthcare knowledge, industry specific expertise, and family support experience to maximize authorization rates, enhance support of donor families, and educate best practice protocols within the Family Support department. In this role the DFA-R will focus on program support, process development, education, and interdepartmental collaboration in alignment with CLA organizational goals.
Additionally, the DFA-R will serve on the DFA call schedule which may involve up to 50% of call shifts. In this role they navigate dynamic and often challenging environments to facilitate family conversations, provide end-of-life care and support to donor families throughout the donation process, support hospital partners and clinical colleagues during case activity, provide outcome information and aftercare transition details to donor families, and ensure case activity proceeds in an effective and efficient manner.
DFA Resource is required to take 24-hour Call shifts and provides thorough oversight of the donation authorization and family support process including but not limited to: Critical Conversation Preparation
Detailed comprehension of referral and case activity Review of onsite visits and necessity of activating a DFA to join the OPC or RRC Family conversation readiness timing assessment and planning Pre-authorization conversation coaching and huddle Case Oversight, Staff and Case Support
Consult on challenges for staff as they arise in the field Authorization paperwork, DRAI and documentation review Post authorization debriefing and coaching Remote family support, case management, family follow-up, case completion, documentation and transition to aftercare when staffing resources require it Logistics Planning DFA staff activation to cases and/or imminent referrals Oversee and assist with DRC transfer, transportation and logistics Oversee DFA staff hours, travel time, and case load Partnership with AOC to design staffing plan for following days Daily Orientee Supervisor Collaborate with DFA educator daily to set priorities for opportunities and experiences Activate orientee for case and/or referral activity Ensure onsite staff are up to date on orientee learning opportunities and feedback process requirements Provide feedback to DFA educator for weekly orientation updates Onsite Donation Advocacy and Family Support: Rotates 24-hour call responsibilities with team of Donation & Family Advocates Provides extensive bereavement support and assistance to families of potential donors through sensitive and respectful consideration of culture, beliefs and grief process. Collaboratively assesses appropriate timing to educate potential donor's next-of-kin (NOK) about donation options, status of donor designation, or opportunity to authorize donation Facilitates authorization or disclosure (first-person authorization) with legal NOK and accurately, conducts a donor risk assessment interview with identified surrogate of the potential organ donor. Provides on-going support and guidance to donor family throughout the duration of the case including connecting family to appropriate hospital, community, and social resources Works with the Organ Procurement Coordinator (OPC) as needed during the donation case. Supports HD department in collaboration with hospital partners by ensuring effective communication, process coordination that may be unique to individual hospital cultures, policies, and best practices. Provides transition to aftercare plan, and required outcome information following recovery. Process Development Participates and leads process development projects that are in alignment with the organization's mission Bachelor's of Science Degree with healthcare related focus or equivalent experience.

Extensive clinical healthcare knowledge base, with the ability to quickly and independently exercise sound clinical judgement in an often-stressful environment.
Excellent communication skills, flexible, highly motivated, a good team member with a positive attitude.
Must be able to work in an adaptive fashion with a wide range of professional and nonprofessional constituents including but not limited to governmental officials, students, healthcare staff and the public.
Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Extensive successful practice experience as a DFA in an AOPO accredited OPO. Individual authorization rates that consistently exceed 70% The DFA-RC will oversee the evaluation of family readiness for donation conversations, assist in managing family support throughout a donation case, support remote family follow-up, and coordinate DFA staffing logistics. The DFA-R is on call for 24 hour periods, must travel by charter and commercial aircraft, conduct family support in ICUs, collaborate with the AOC's in screening for potential organ, tissue, and eye donations, obtain authorization for donation, communicates with donor families, and assist family aftercare follow-up. Marketing and education responsibilities include: hospital assessments, develop organ donation protocols, and provide education to hospital staff for the purpose of increasing organ donations.
Clinical call for 24-hour periods and be able to function for extended hours in an intense, high-paced environment. Must be able to lift 80 lbs. Have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
