Job title: Admission Clerk
Work Location: Clinic Admissions Office
Reports to: Clinic Manager
Position Summary: This is a full-time hourly nonexempt position. Responsible for admitting patients when they arrive to the facility. Ensure that all pertinent questions are asked and that all necessary documentation/paperwork is completed accurately. Process and receive payments on patient accounts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Welcomes visitors in person or on the telephone, answering inquires; relaying calls to nurses/providers or to the correct department; giving directions; referring inquires to appropriate departments. Receiving and documenting payments on patient accounts completely and accurately. Registering patients completely and accurately as they present to the facility. Maintains department operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes. Maintains a safe and clean working environment in compliance with healthcare procedures and regulations. Adheres to infection-control protocols. Adheres to all hospital, clinic and departmental policies and procedures. Monitor and coordinate maintenance of equipment operation and inventory. Check and maintain supplies inventory for the department. Adapts and supports change in a positive and professional manner. Cooperates with peers and supports group decisions. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: Relevant experience Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff Intermediate computer skills Professional, friendly attitude Working knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills Responsible and compassionate Outstanding organizational and multi-tasking skills Excellent problem-solving skills Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices. Physical Requirements: The Admission Clerk must have the ability to move around freely, walk and sit for long periods of time; use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired; use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; bend or twist their body; understand the speech of another person and speak clearly so listeners can understand; and see details of objects that are less than a few feet away and at a distance. The Admission Clerk must be able to occasionally lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
