This Civil Engineer will also have at least one year must have been in a professional capacity, or any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License may be required.
Must have proficiency with MS office tools, especially Excel, GIS related program and devices; and demonstrate strong organization, writing and communication skills to ensure descriptions of findings are communicated precisely.
The Civil Engineer will act as resident engineer on projects such as multi-lane Intersection reconstruction; traffic signal Installation, including control loops and turn signals; two-lane highway construction or reconstruction in a rural setting. Systematically accounting for deficiencies in drainage and other assets discovered during investigations, recommending corrective action through work orders.
Substitutions: An Associate's degree with a major in civil engineering or civil engineering technology, may be substituted for a maximum of one year of experience. A Bachelor's degree with a major in civil engineering or civil engineering technology, may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience. A Graduate degree with a major in civil engineering, may be substituted for the required experience. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Review of plans and specifications. Locating and documenting all aspects of the highway drainage systems (including other assets as needed) in conjunction with site investigation. Uploading gathered data into documents/files for use with an Asset Management System. Assisting Maintenance personnel with work order creation in Maximo and/or VUEWorks and provide training as needed to ensure consistency in Maximo documentation. Performing related work to support other Maintenance Operations, as needed. Updating Maintenance Plans and Records with drainage and permit information as needed ensuring records are kept current. Assisting in correcting violations through communication with abutters. Prepare and/or review plans, specifications, and cost estimates for engineering projects such as intersection up grading, repaving projects, box culverts and single span bridges Conduct field Investigations to determine the necessity of repair or reconstruction of roads or structures. Supervise maintenance work such as highway landscaping, repairing operations, and snow and Ice removal. Performing field inspection and reviews, as needed. Drafting permits and letters as needed under the supervision of the Permit Engineer.
