Job Title: Civil Engineer / Civil Designer III
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Privately held full-service civil engineering and land survey firm that strives to deliver successful, bold, and innovative solutions to public and private clients and communities has an immediate opening for a Civil Engineer / Civil Designer III specializing in Land Development to join our Las Vegas, NV office.
Civil Engineer / Civil Designer III Education and Experience Needed:
Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering
Engineer In Training E.I.T. certification and related technical civil engineering land development experience in the areas of drafting and design.
At least 6 years of technical civil engineering experience in the areas of drafting and design for a civil engineering land development & survey firm. (But Flexible)
Highly skilled and experienced in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D
Experience directly communicating with government entities
Licensed Professional Engineer P.E. preferred but not required
Civil Engineer / Civil Designer III Role and Responsibilities:
The Civil Engineer / Civil Designer III is an assistant to the Civil Project Managers on the assigned team and is considered a full journey level class within the Designers. Civil Designers within this class are distinguished from the Designers Level II by their performance of the full range of duties as assigned, including their understanding of AutoCAD, ability to resolve design problems and knowledge of governing entity requirements.
Position is to handle all aspects of the design and check the work of Civil Designer Level I & II with assistance from the project manager as required. Civil Design documents and components are then supplied to project managers and project coordinators to complete submittals and ensure project timeliness.
Designers Level III receives minimal instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. They also answer questions and make design decisions for design level I & II. The duties include total responsibility for the preparation of all work papers. In addition they provide overall assistance to the Civil Engineering Project Manager.


Accurately check others design work in accord with firm and entities standards and client requirements.
Competently prepare full set of improvement plans, entitlement maps and exhibits, in accordance with firm standards.
Accurately prepare water and sewer calculations.
Has the ability to translate the ideas, information, and computations relative to plans, maps and charts into construction documents.
Prepare quantity and cost estimates.
Knowledge of design standards and the engineering concepts and reasons behind the standards.
Effectively coordinate with city, utility companies, contractors, and surveyors pertaining to any design plan issues.
Assists Project Manager with client service issues. Resolves problems with clients to fulfill the needs of the job request.
Works in conjunction with the Designer I & II with the preparation of engineering designs, related drawings, and specifications to ensure plans are completed accurately and in a timely fashion.
The Designer III shall be required to coordinate with the Survey Coordinator, Professional Surveyor and Hydrology Department as needed.
Draft plans utilizing a variety of computer systems including AutoCAD; prepare planning layout; ensure quality of work performed; check existing maps for accuracy and compliance; update and modify maps.
Verify and back check own work and work of team members for accuracy and compliance with City standards and general design practices.
Provide information to the client, contractors and consultants relative to technical design matters.
Work effectively with the Project Coordinators, Project Managers and other team members.
Follow the policies and procedures established in the company operating and CAD Standards manual.
Performs any other duties or responsibilities, which will assist in the team running as efficiently as possible or in which the project manager deems appropriate.
Working knowledge of local, state and federal, drainage laws and codes related to drainage.
Knowledge of water pressure and flow rate engineering concepts and transfer concepts on to design.
Have a solid understanding of budget and schedules of each design and drafting task.


Working Conditions:
This job operates in a professional engineering office environment and outdoor for site visits.
Work Hours:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Occasionally the employee may need to work overtime as deemed necessary.
