Full job description JOB DESCRIPTION-HYBRID CHILD DEVELOPMENT FACULTY & CHAIR General Description/Primary Purpose: Provides excellent virtual instruction in collegiate Child Development courses and contributes to campus-wide activities by performing essential functions as listed below. Faculty will collaborate with the Dean to develop a comprehensive plan and program for the Child Development and Elementary Education programs including recruitment and retention.

Description of Duties and Tasks: General Job Functions: Use state-of-the-art technology in the delivery of instruction and other office duties. Demonstrate scholarly standards of academic excellence and rigor, and exhibit the traits befitting that of a distinguished faculty member. Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to cultural diversity as it impacts curricula and instructional practices; show a willingness to work effectively in a culturally diverse workplace and not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, genetic information, age, religion, disability, political beliefs, or status as a veteran. Support the mission of the college, i.e., provides opportunities for student learning, personal growth, professional success, and community enhancement. Maintain a positive attitude of service toward students, co-workers, and others. Promote and support service-learning activities. Develop and use assessment of student learning methods in the classroom setting and contribute to campus-wide assessment projects. Maintain in coordination with other department faculty (full-time and adjunct) an up-to-date, complete, and well-organized syllabus for each course taught by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Develop and maintain curricula that appropriately reflect current knowledge in the discipline. Cooperate with departmental faculty in the selection of textbooks and teaching materials. Include a writing component in each course and encourage students to utilize tutoring services. Incorporate the use of the MSC Library and Student Success Center in all courses and make recommendations for library purchases. Support the President's Scholars Program, Student Government Association, Child Development Club, and other pertinent student clubs and organizations. Participate in Professional Development including specific online training as designated by Dean. Perform other duties as may be assigned/required by supervisors. To meet objectives of virtual work-related situations and/or extended periods when working from home, all faculty and staff must have access to 24/7 reliable off-campus Internet. Participate in occasional community service activities and programs. Initiate, plan, and oversee implementation of all academic offerings in the program, with appropriate involvement of members of the program, division, Academic Affairs, and College planning bodies. Take a leading role in academic program quality and assessment of student learning outcomes. Support recommendations for the Academic Council and communicate to the program faculty. Maintain an active Advisory Committee which meets a minimum of once a year. Maintain and search for new articulation agreements/memoranda of understanding with outside resources to improve the program. Participate in CEP if applicable. To meet objectives of virtual work-related situations and/or extended periods when working from home all faculty and staff must have access to 24/7 reliable off-campus Internet. Upon employment the successful candidate must complete mandatory NIMS (National Incident Management System) training modules IS-100.HE; IS-700.a. Specific Job Functions – Faculty Member: Teach a minimum of 15-semester credits or equivalent hours in courses including Child Development. May be required to assist with other courses where qualified and at the direction of the Chair or Dean. Courses may be taught online asynchronous, synchronous, or occasionally on campus. Provide direction and involvement in all aspects of program implementation, including curriculum design, refinement and sequencing, classroom design, hardware/software selection, student recruitment, business and industry contacts, and any other activity necessary. Use appropriate evaluation instruments to measure student progress while maintaining the process of data-based decision-making for curriculum improvement. Provide opportunities for office hours virtually or comparable to for the modality taught for students needing help. Office hours must be posted in the syllabus and appropriate for student availability. Direct and facilitate the entry of Child Development and Elementary Education assessment data into Taskstream course management software each semester and make modifications to teaching methods and programs as needed. Serve as a graduation advisor. Maintain professionalism as described in the MSC Faculty handbook. Participate professionally in state, regional, and national organizations (e.g., OAEYC, SECA, NAEYC). Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Individuals must possess these kinds of knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Demonstrate a deep understanding of germane subject matter that goes well beyond the introductory textbook level. Experience and/or training in the use of state-of-the-art technology in the delivery of instruction, including but not limited to the Internet and Zoom. Develop critical thinking exercises and well-organized lectures. Communicate clearly and effectively to students in online courses as well as in in-person classes. Other Ergonomic Requirements: Performance of job functions related to instruction requires seeing, hearing and speaking, as well as, some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting, walking, and carrying of supplies and light equipment. All individuals are required to be able to perform the movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions of the job.
Hours: Generally, weekday (Monday through Friday) hours and evenings will vary to achieve 37.5 hours per week both virtually and on campus in coordination with the Dean. On campus hours will include but not limited to meetings, student tours, events, and other responsibilities as needed. Virtual office hours are required to allow for student interaction. Scheduled zoom classes may be assigned. Other professional activities can be scheduled in accordance with college policy and in cooperation with the Dean and the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Hours may change from semester to semester depending on student schedules and needs.
Qualification Standards: Minimum Education Required: Master's degree in Child Development Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies; or related degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Child Development/Family Studies, or Early Childhood Education. Experience Preferred: Preferred two years of successful teaching with a strong background in the subject areas identified in paragraph one of this section. Experience teaching distance education classes and students with a variety of racial and cultural backgrounds is desired. Professionalism: Faculty at MSC are expected to demonstrate dedication to teaching and to show professional competence, integrity, and enthusiasm in the performance of all responsibilities.
