Primary Description: Accepts referrals and coordinates interviews of children alleging sexual and physical abuse according to the most current Sunflower House Protocol. Establishes contact with referred caregivers/families to schedule a convenient appointment time and conducts initial intake of child and family. Documents intake information on appropriate case tracking systems and establish confidential client files. Provided family advocacy to late day appointments and backup as needed. Confers with child assessment, medical staff, and partner agency professionals throughout execution of duties. Provides administrative assistance to program director, and receptionist duties.Specific Responsibilities:
Program DutiesCoordinates and schedules appointments for all forensic interviews, extended forensic interviews which are convenient for child clients, their guardians, the assigned child protective services caseworker and detective, and any other relevant professional in a timely manner. Assisting partners with determining emergency/non-emergency cases. Utilizes judgment to determine appropriate timeliness of scheduling forensic interviews. Processes information with the child assessment team to determine if a second interview of a child is warranted. Completes accurate intakes for children alleging physical or sexual abuse and their families, gathering as much detail as possible in advance of the child's scheduled interview. Initiates telephone contact with the child's family prior to their Sunflower House appointment to greet and prepare the family for the forensic interview, provide directions, and address any immediate barriers to the client's ability to be present for their scheduled interview. Provides family advocacy services to late afternoon appointments and as backup when needed.Supervises children in the waiting area as needed who may have special needs or who may require close monitoring, emotional comfort, etc. Administrative DutiesProvides administrative support to the Child Assessment Program Director.Compiles, distributes and monitors in-house client records, seeking to protect the confidentiality, privacy and dignity of child clients and their families at all times.Creates new cases, enters intake data in NCAtrak. Oversees the collection of case tracking data from partner agency professionals, making changes to client records as new or more accurate information becomes available. Implements and maintains a system that readily identifies and tracks the use and users of client information. Responds to requests from Child Assessment Program staff and partner agency professionals for information from client records, including reproduction of client records.Maintains and updates referral information and agency handouts.Routinely backs up to the front desk receptionist, providing phone coverage and family room supervision as needed. Attends relevant continuing education opportunities, committee meetings, conferences, etc as requested by the Child Assessment Program Director.Fields calls and walk-ins from the public, and provides information and referral on child abuse and neglect as well as all programs and services of the agency.Attends agency events and meetings as necessary and appropriate.Remains abreast of issues related to child abuse and neglect.Engage in other duties as assigned.Basic Requirements: Minimum of two years of post-secondary education in social welfare or related field from an accredited institution, and two years experience in child welfare setting required. Bachelor's degree in social welfare or related areas preferred. Knowledgeable of the social service and legal systems, and protective service programs and procedures. Basic understanding of social casework principles, crisis intervention and advocacy theory. Excellent computer and data entry, oral and written communication, public relations and organizational skills. Responds quickly, appropriately, and effectively to crisis situations, functions independently; maintains appropriate boundaries, is confidentiality and culturally competent with child clients and their families. Demonstrate ability to accomplish and advance program goals, a willingness to remain abreast of current research related to child abuse and neglect, and an ability to remain sensitive and demonstrate appropriate boundaries with program clients, agency staff, partners and volunteers.Physical/Environmental / Other
