A commercial and residential flooring company in operation since the 80's that specializes in premium commercial flooring across all industries (including healthcare, education, hospitality, multifamily and general commercial).
This sales-oriented business partners with industry leading manufacturing partners and a network of outsourced contractors to complete their installation services. This middle-market company, backed by leading private equity investors, is actively pursuing growth opportunities aimed at enhancing its market position, expanding its customer base, and improving overall performance, with the goal of achieving a successful exit.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our team. The COO will be a crucial member of the company's senior leadership team and play an important role in driving the company's growth and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the commercial flooring industry and a proven track record of success in operational leadership roles.
The Chief Operating Officer will be responsible for managing all operational aspects of the company. This will be a critical role assisting the President in providing vision, leadership and management necessary to ensure the company has the proper operational and financial processes and controls, administrative and reporting procedures and high performing people.
This position requires a smart, aggressive and proactive individual with strong financial acumen and a demonstrated track record of successfully moving businesses forward. You will need to learn all aspects of the business functions. You will be a pivotal player, providing significant input to and leadership of the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, best practices, policies and procedures. This position requires a candidate with a passion for operational excellence and an eye towards the future and long-term success of the business with a potential opportunity to grow into the President/CEO role over time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Serve as and work with the Executive Management Team to update and drive the execution of operational excellence, strategy, value creation, performance tracking and reporting into the President and the Board of Directors.
* Develop and implement strategic plans to drive business growth and enhance operational efficiency while focusing on EBITDA growth and cash flow generation.
* Lead all aspects of the company's operations, including procurement, warehouse management, and facilities management, while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
* Drive operational excellence by implementing best practices and process improvements.
* Manage and coordinate construction projects with the sales team, including monitoring of backlog and pipeline activity, project scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
* Monitor and evaluate project performance to identify areas for improvement.
* Oversee IT infrastructure and systems to support operational needs.
* Manage HR functions, including recruitment, on-boarding, training, and performance management.
Skills/Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
* 10+ years of construction-related experience while leading operations with a middle-market sales and distribution business, including experience working directly with general contractors.
* Proven track record of success in driving business growth and operational excellence.
* Experience in job/project costing and review of profitability.
* Experience in HR, Payroll, and IT Systems.
* Strong leadership and communication skills.
* Well organized and self-directed individual.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
* Dynamic, high-energy, results-oriented individual who is willing and able to be hands-on.
* Work style that is open-door, accessible, thoughtful and people oriented.
* Familiarity with percentage-of-completion accounting & general finance preferred.
* Prior experience working in a private equity-backed business preferred.
* Previous experience leading a business through a successful sale process preferred.
Compensation:
The Chief Operating Officer will receive an attractive compensation package including base salary, bonus and potentially options. A complete benefits package will also be offered.
