A developmental perspective provides the cornerstone for our work with students, faculty, and staff. Services are provided in a safe and supportive environment that celebrates all forms of diversity and polyculturalism.CAPS' purpose is tied directly to the mission of both the DSA and the educational mission to the University. The biopsychosocial model is a general model or approach stating that biological, psychological (which entails thoughts, emotions, and behaviors), and social factors (socio-economical, socio-environmental, and cultural) all play a significant role in human functioning in the context of disease or illness. We further accomplish our purpose by evaluating the effectiveness of our services as it relates to student success.About the Position:Provides psychological prevention, intervention, treatment, education, and health promotion services and support to the University community.Minimum Degree Requirements:Master's degree in Psychological, Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family TherapyRequired Qualifications:Certificates, licenses, or educationrequired:California licensure or license-eligible within two years in one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT)Ability to be successfully credentialed by verification of training, experience, and licensure statusAdditional knowledge, skills, and abilitiesrequiredfor this position:Excellent ability to work as a member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary teamAbility to demonstrate awareness of the cultural diversity of the University community, and establish and maintain cooperative and effective relations with University employees, students, and the publicStrong crisis management and intervention skills with a broad range of presenting concernsTraining and clinical experience using a brief therapy modelTraining and experience in individual and group psychotherapy, brief therapy modalities, and crisis interventionDemonstrated experience or expertise working with multi-cultural populations, including Latino/Latina, Asian, African American, International, LGBTQ, and students from other underrepresented populationsApplicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.Preferred Qualifications:Additional knowledge, skills, and abilitiespreferredfor this position:Clinical experience in a college setting and Experience in developing and providing outreach and education services to meet the mental health needs of college institutionsInterest and demonstrated expertise in one of more concerns commonly presented by students is desirable, including therapy with survivors of interpersonal violence, substance abuse, and eating disordersCalifornia Licensure strongly preferred.Experience using (or ability to quickly learn how to use) electronic medical records (EMR)Service in U.S. militaryBilingual (Spanish)Responsibilities:Assessment, Counseling, Crisis Intervention, Clinical Consultation (60-65% of time):Conducts weekly intakesProvides short-term individual, couple, and group counseling to students presenting with developmental, psychiatric, and academic concernsProvides triage coverage and crisis intervention, including occasional after-hours crisis responseProvides consultation to faculty, staff, and third-party stakeholders (e.g., responding to distressed students)Provides workshops and other educational outreach activities to the campus communityMay serve as primary and/or secondary supervisor for clinical trainees at the discretion of the Director.Administrative, Outreach, and Professional Development Activities (35-40% of time):Provides peer review and clinical consultation to other cliniciansParticipates in campus-wide events and activitiesParticipates in community service activities appropriate to the professionContributes to creative activities that enhance understanding and practice of psychologyAssists with program evaluation and implementation of agency developmental needs identifiedAssists with assessment, data analysis, and drafting/reviewing reports for promoting CAPS to the campus communityMaintains licensure through appropriate required continuing professional educationAttends all staff meetings, clinical team meetings, and other Divisional and University meetings as scheduledMaintains clinical records and completes administrative record-keeping in a timely mannerPerforms additional related duties as assigned.Application Deadline:Screening of applications will begin January 2, 2024.
