Responsibilities
• Patrol campus buildings and adjacent areas• Enforce University and department policies and regulations• Investigate crimes or other incidents• Provide emergency medical assistance• Take appropriate legal action, including making arrests when necessary• Assist in the prosecution of cases• Perform administrative duties• Maintain positive interactions with supervisors, officers, faculty, students, and the community• Provide assistance to the courts or grand juries• Perform any other assigned duties
Requirements
• Several years of experience in law enforcement, preferably in a University setting• Some experience in public safety or security• CPR and First Aid certification• Knowledge of criminal laws, case laws, legal codes, and court procedures• Knowledge of effective communication strategies• Excellent written and verbal communication skills• Effective problem-solving skills• Observation and memory skills• Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and regulations• Ability to make decisions based on standards and accurate assessments• Ability to complete required documentation and reports• Proficiency in utilizing windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite• Ability to work both as a team member and independently• Ability to work with aggressive or emotionally unstable individuals• Superior community relations skills• Ability to deal courteously and effectively with a culturally diverse community• Ability to work shift work and during inclement weather or emergency situations
